what a joke... there's no way the padres don't know what's coming. Nobody else can hit Hill, and Cameron just sat on a curveball on the first pitch.

Hill has had a few meltdown starts in which he has given up multiple homeruns, that just seems like a part of who he is as a pitcher right now, vulnerable to the long ball. He might be tipping his pitches, but you can't say that for sure.

he threw a first pitch curve to cameron, not a bad pitch, and cameron was just sitting on it. The Pads are either stealing signs or know something that no other team does. I wish that Hill was pitching tomorrow against a different team.

It wasn't a terrible pitch, but it looked like a curveball that stayed high in the zone, something that can be vulnerable to being hit hard. Maybe they know something, but isn't it possible that he is just having a bad start?

I predict that Maddux gives up at least 5 runs today

The Cubs haven't really seen him that well, though they haven't flailed pathetically either. What makes you think he blows up today?

That's the Maddux I remember.

There's something going on. Even when Hill's not on his A game does he get battered around like this. Let's see if they go to a new set of signs next inning.

Would a 25-1 Padres win be surprising?

maddux gave them the lowdown on how to know what's coming. hill's tipping for sure

Then why didn't Maddux give them the lowdown on Zambrano? They were both on the same team for quite a while, and nobody could hit him yesterday.

Because Hill isn't in the same league as Z.

his location isn't great, but he's thrown several good pitches in his two starts against the pads that have been hit hard. If the other team knows that a curve or a fastball is coming, they're going to wail away on the pitcher. Cameron isn't the type of hitter who sits on a first pitch curve, and he's not a particularly good breaking-ball hitter. I'd just take him out at this point because it's obvious that the Padres know something.

Sure he is, but they have a different repertoire. Z is mostly hard stuff, with a heavy sink when he's on. Hill throws two very different pitches and relies on keeping hitters off balance.

In other news, the Brewers are down 5-0 to the Twins.

Sweet. Hopefully they won't lose ground today then.

The Cards need to lose for us to keep 2nd place, although when you are 6.5 back, it doesn't really make much of a difference, I guess.

Z is coming back around now, in another month he will probably have a better era than rich.

Barrett out 3 unassisted.

Third time through the order Maddux will start giving up more runs.

Considering how few hits and walks he's given up, he may only face a few Cubs three times. He doesn't really throw many pitches per game at his age anymore, does he?
