I'm in a 10-team fantasy league with my pitching doing pretty well, but in some offensive stats my team has sucked:

Runs scored: 7th

Singles: 9th

Doubles: T6th

Triples: T4th

RBI: 9th

SB: 6th

K: 9th

OPS: 8th

Here's the team:

C Johnny Estrada (Piazza on DL)

1B Nick Swisher

2B Kelly Johnson

3B Bill Hall

SS Hanley Ramirez

OF Carlos Lee

OF Alfonso Soriano

OF Manny Ramirez

Util Barry Bonds

Bench Paul Konerko

Bench Felipe Lopez

Now, Lopez was a useful player last year, but this year he has been awful, and hasn't even stolen bases. Manny Ramirez and Paul Konerko have been much, much worse than expected to this point, and Soriano has been disappointing too.

Among the free agents are 3B Mike Lowell, OF Josh Willingham, OF Ken Griffey Jr. and OF Gary Matthews Jr. Are any of these guys worth picking up? Do I need to stick it out and hope that Soriano, Manny and Konerko pick it up (Konerko seems like he's warming up)? Or should I try to trade pitching for better hitting?

I would personally take any combination of those fa's then your two current bench players.

I'd look to make a trade for a 3B. You can afford to trade an OF. Maybe Bonds, Lee, or ManRam. I think Fonz's value is too low right now to trade him. So yeah, maybe package Hall and one of the OF for a stud 3B. Then put Konerko in at Util and pick up one of those FA outfielders. You can also probably drop Lopez. He's been bad for a year and a half now. You have Hanley at SS so he has no chance of ever playing SS for you. The only thing is 2B. Kelly Johnson started off hot and then went very cold. He's done alright as of late, IIRC. I would look to upgrade 2B as well if it doesn't cost too much. If it costs a lot, then stick with KJ. He'll be good enough if you have all those other guys around him.

God, don't drop Konerko. He started like this in 2005 as well and that worked out OK for him.

Lowell shouldn't be a FA in any league. Drop Lopez for him, like now.

I'd keep Konerko b/c he's started slow in the past (as others have said). That said, I'd also want 1 (if not all 3) of those FA OFs. But I'm not sure what to do about that. KJ probably won't play this well all year, but I don't think you have another guy to play at 2B.

Good job on picking up Berkman, now go pick up Lowell as well.

Also, are you in a league withg unexperienced fantasy players? I can't believe someone dropped Berkman and no one has picked up Lowell.

I'd go ahead and drop Bill Hall for Lowell. Hall will bring you a lot of strike outs, and not much else worth while. Meanwhile, Lowell is a doubles machine with a high average, high RBI and run total, and his OPS is .959, much better than Hall's .776

well i might have fixed my offense problem... someone dropped berkman and i picked him up on waivers. Hopefully he remembers how to hit for power.

You need a new league.

actually this league is generally quite knowledgable, but there are one or two people who are impatient. I don't think it's terrible that Lowell was a FA; his numbers were nothing special last year.

I'm not saying Lowell should have been drafted, but if 10 people didn't realize he was 1 of the best 3B in the league after a month and on a team that's going to be one of the league leaders in runs scored (thus lots of chances to score runs and drive them in), it's a bad league. Of course, as soon as someone dropped Berkman, you knew that, right?

I don't have a problem with Lowell being available, heck he was a FA for quite a long time in our NSBB league. I do have a problem with dropping Berkman. Hes a 1/2 rounder. Hes even on the non-drop list on yahoo. And its not even that hes having a horrible season, hes just had a bad week.
