Chiefs Place Dolis on DL, Billek Added to Roster

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs announced today that RHP Rafael Dolis has been placed on the disabled list due to soreness in his right elbow. RHP Mike Billek has been called up from extended spring training and will make an appearance out of the bullpen tonight as the Chiefs and Dayton play game two of their four game series at 6:00 PM CST. Billek is also slated to start on Saturday when the Chiefs travel to Wisconsin.

Dolis will see Dr. Gryzlo, the Cubs team Orthopedist in Chicago on Monday to get his elbow examined. The Chiefs and Cubs should know the extent of the injury and how much time Dolis will miss after that appointment. Dolis, the youngest player on the Chiefs roster, turned 19 in January and has made a team high six starts while posting a 3-1 record and a 1.80 ERA. The right-hander has struck out 24 and walked 16 in a team-high 30 innings pitched this season. In his last appearance on Monday against Fort Wayne, Dolis allowed one run over 4 1/3 innings while striking out five and walking four.

Billek will be making his third appearance in a Chiefs uniform after spending time in Peoria during 2005 and 2006. In his first outing in 2005, also against Dayton on July 25 he picked up the win working five innings while allowing just one run on five hits. The right-hander was also on the mound when the Chiefs turned the first and only triple play in the history of O’Brien Field that day.

A former third round pick in 2005 out of the University of Central Florida, Billek spilt the 2006 season between Peoria, Daytona and Boise. With the Chiefs he finished 4-5 with a 5.66 ERA in 15 appearances, five of which were starts. He struck out 25 while walking 11 in 35 innings pitched with Peoria. He also went 0-1 with an 8.84 ERA with Daytona in five appearances and 3-3 with a 6.67 ERA in Boise. He has a career record of 9-10 with a 5.68 ERA in 46 games including 31 starts.

Ugh for Dolis, I hope it isn't as serious as it sounds. Good for Billek, but I hope he can figure out full-season A-ball.

Unfortunately it probably is as serious as it sounds. I don't expect good news on Monday but we can still hope!

More moves here:

Carlos Rojas was demoted to AA Tennessee from AAA Iowa to make room for Ronny Cedeno. To make room for Rojas, 1B Brian Dopirak was placed on the Tennessee DL today.

At Daytona, RHP Todd Blackford returned to the DL. To replace him, LHP Darin Downs (and his growth plates) jumped up after rehabbing an offseason shoulder surgery in Mesa.
