In the opening game of the Polar Bear league, the visiting North Poll Elves defeated the Anchorage Sub-Zeroes 138 – 1. Shawn Estes threw the first no-hitter of his career, but walked 420 batters. The Sub-Zeros scored there only run on an Estes bunt that stuck in the snow. Unaware of the ground rules, the Polar Bears attempted to dig the ball out rather then wave their arms. It was ruled an inside the park home run and the only hit of the game.

The Elves manager Eddie Gaedel III said “They were just afraid to pitch to us; they didn’t even throw a single strike. We won this one for Santa”

Anchorage’s new manager Dusty Baker opined “Man that was a tough loss. We out hit them and played great defense. It’s not often you lose to a bunch of base clogging midgets. I was gonna take Shawn out in the second inning, but do you know how cold it was on the mound? I ain’t no white dude”

Game notes: Anchorage star Jose Macias was a late scratch and was added to the 15-day DL for frostbite.

Sorry, This is what happens when you stay up too late.
