Craig Wilson for Shawn Chacon,

Kip Wells for a AA guy with a 4.43 ERA,

Oliver Perez (!) and Roberto Hernandez for Xavier Nady

What are they thinking out there by the Alleghany?

Shawn Chacon was picked up off the scrap heap, Nady is a platoon/bench player at best, and why are they giving up so much pitching? Just don't understand the thought process here. Why give up on Perez? I'd give up on the pitching coach before Perez.

I'll give you Wilson for Chacon, but the other deals aren't particularly bad. Perez and Hernandez for Nady seems about a toss-up to me, and I'm surprised they actually found someone to give them anything for Kip Wells.

I think they could have gotten more for Hernandez. A lot of teams like the White Sox seemed like they needed some relief help. And after hearing all week how the Pitt GM was asking for the moon in return for players, I expected more.

Oliver Perez is still a young guy with talent, and he's left handed. Players like Nady are a dime a dozen.

I think if you give Nady consistent ABs you can reasonably expect .280 / .345. He's got more value than our Jacques does, that's for certain.

And they hung on to Burnitz. I thought he would be on the move.

Your kidding me, right? He's hitting low 200s, not starting and makes 6 Mil +.

Remember, it takes two to trade.

It was rumored that a team looking for a little bit of power might be interested. Reportedly there were offers, but the Pirates were asking too much.

Crazier things have been done before.

The money was paid out by the Pirates and a team with more money that is not as miserable as the Pirates might take it on for the playoffs.

The Perez deal make sense if he's actually lost a lot of velocity like some reports have said. The Wilson deal is just dumb, and the Kip Wells deal is meh.

Perez, in a AAA game Saturday night gave up 8 runs in 1/3 of an inning. He has a high ERA in the minors, hasn't done squat in the majors for a season and a 1/2. The Mets are keeping him in the Minors.

They were determined to trade Wilson. They tried trading him in the offseason. For what ever reason, they soured on him dating back to last year. Chacon had a decent stretch with the Yanks last year. Who knows what happened last year.

Kip Wells hasn't had a good year since 2003.

Besides Wilson, what did they really give up?

Perez? Seems to be toast. Maybe a change will help him. Two pitching coaches couldn't.

Roberto Hernandez? He was worth something, but replaceable, and Nady seems to be of good compensation.

A singles hitting first baseman who's defense is lacking.

Kip Wells, he of the 8-18 record last year.

Finally, Craig Wilson is someone upper management gave up on. No idea why. From that perspective, Chacon is a good pickup. If they would have valued him a bit more, Maybe they would have won another couple of games this year.
