Octavio Dotel - R - Athletics

Octavio Dotel has agreed to a deal with the Yankees, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

Obviously, he wasn't kidding when he said his role didn't matter. The Yankees will likely use Dotel in middle relief after he returns from Tommy John surgery, which could happen in late April or May. Dec. 20 - 4:35 pm et

Thank GOD he didn't sign with STL!

Why didn't Hendry get in on this and do another "Dempster" project!?!

Because he didnt have enough money after signing Eyre and Howry to ridiculous contracts? Who knows. I would think this is a move Hendry would make considering he signed Williamson and Dempster.

Here's Rosenthal's take

The Yankees continued adding to their bullpen depth Tuesday, signing free-agent right-hander Octavio Dotel to a one-year, incentive-laden contract, FOXSports.com has learned.

Dotel, 32, is said to be ahead of schedule in his recovery from elbow-ligament transplant surgery, but might not be available until June.

He becomes the third free-agent reliever to join the Yankees, following right-hander Kyle Farnsworth and left-hander Mike Myers.

Octavio Dotel is expected to receive a base salary of $2 million and up to $3 million in bonuses under the terms of his one-year deal with the Yankees.

His deal contains an additional $2.5 million in bonuses based on games finished, though he probably won't achieve them unless he's traded. We'd like the signing more if an option for 2007 was included, but it's still a nice pickup for the Yankees. Dec. 20 - 5:33 pm et

Pretty expensive for a guy coming off major elbow surgery. Plus he won't be available to pitch until June. Seems a bit pricey.

Yep, looks like the Yanks supersized the Dempster-style deal. Can't complain about not getting him at that rate really.

Seriously, what are you talking about? I'm not even going to touch your Eyre and Howry comment (despite the $$ not being all that ridiculous in this market) because it's clear you think the kid on the short bus could outmanage Hendry BUT:

We have plenty of money and no one to spend it on. I don't get where you came up with the not having enough money comment from, but we have 20 million to spend still (AT LEAST) and absolutely no one to spend it on.
