  1. Soriano hurt? Good to see Lou finally putting Theriot where he belongs. Time for Izturis to be gone..
  2. I guess the manager really never mattered when you have a pathetic GM running the show..
  3. Thank you Jim Hendry for another year of futility. Never ceases to amaze me how that fool still has a job.
  4. i KNEW signing Floyd was a bad idea. This is exactly why I wanted him not to be signed. Now look at what we are dealing with.
  5. Is it time to start worrying about him?
  6. I've been calling that for a while. I wish I had Lou's number, I would personally tell him to bench that pile of..
  7. Let's hope . I'm sick of seeing Izturis out there.
  8. And that black hole that is Cedeno/Izturis isn't? At least one can reasonably expect that the offensive production from the OF is going to pick up. The same can't be said for Izturis or Cedeno. Going into the year, realistically, we could expect little from any of the SS offensively. It's safe to say that though they are bad, their production isn't all that much lower than expected. Soriano, Jones and Floyd have all been disappointing. These are the players that we expected to produce that aren't. If these guys were hitting we wouldn't really care that Izturis and Cedeno weren't. The point is that while Theriot and Derosa are better than Theriot and Izturis or Cedeno the difference is not big enough to really make that much of a difference. The Cubs need their OF to hit. At this point every little counts. Allowing Theriot to play over Izturis is significant in that Theriot could bat 2nd while Izturis 8th. Riot has been hitting well as of late, it would be nice to get rid of the 0/4 performance Izturis gives us and add a hit or two here and there. Soriano Theriot Lee ARam Murton/Floyd Jones Barrett DeRosa PITCHER I like this lineup right now.
  9. I do have a problem keeping Izturis. I'd rather see one of our minor leaguers over this guy. He is no good.
  10. Hendry is responsible for each and every reason why they suck. He's the GM. He puts together the team. You don't diregard the poor record because a couple of the guys he got are doing well. So I guess whichever team wins the world title, no credit should be given to the players or manager, but just to the GM for "putting the team together." Hendry is not totally to blame. Yes, this is a flawed roster, and for that he incurs blame. Lou incurs blame for a few questionable decisions (none of them last night IMO) and the fact that he told Hendry repeatedly to not bring anyone else in. The players get blame for under performing what people like Hendry or everybody else would expect of them. There's too much blame here to put it on one person. There's plenty of blame to go around. But Hendry is ultimately the main problem. The GM is the most important person in an organization. And the Cubs have a really bad one. Soriano's contract is so bad I can see it crippling us in a couple of years.
  11. I believe Cabrera wants to be a 3rd Baseman though and not an outfielder... Nuts. Maybe a gigantic pile of money could change his mind, a la Soriano. While I'd love to have a shot at Cabrera, I think its a total pipe dream to even consider. I think that other teams could totally circumvent us and acquire him directly with better prospects. Getting Cabrera or ARod is a total pipe dream. Not going to happen.
  12. I remember the same thing was brought up in 2006 as well. We're not the Astros, and we're definitely not the same team. What they did is rare and I don't expect the Cubs to follow suit. I hate seeing the 2005 Astros argument. THE POINT IS THAT IT'S NOT EVEN MAY YET My point is I hate seeing the 2005 Astros come up. That really worked out for the "Cubs" very well last year too. The Cubs are what they are right now. They can't win close games and their bullpen has blown quite a few games. It's still early yes, but the bleeding has to stop and we need to get at least a small winning streak going. We've taken care of one issue by getting rid of Miller, now we need to work on getting the bullpen in working order and hopefully getting rid of Izturis. And to think before the season started I thought our bullpen was a strength.
  13. I remember the same thing was brought up in 2006 as well. We're not the Astros, and we're definitely not the same team. What they did is rare and I don't expect the Cubs to follow suit. I hate seeing the 2005 Astros argument.
  14. To me it makes more sense placing Soriano in RF.
  15. Pretty cool article. Eyre and Wuertz get mentioned. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-behindthestats&prov=ap&type=lgns
  16. I believe he can't be traded until June 1. Floyd is currently sporting a .647 OPS. He's also slow, a below average defender, has serious health questions, and is coming off a bad season. If he can get a hot streak going he might be marketable, but I don't think we could get anything for him now. Hendry was able to get him at a cheap price precisely because he lacked marketability. Hendry was able to get him cheap because Floyd turned down several more lucrative offers to come home. It was reported that there were 5 other teams that wanted him, and most of them were wanting him to be a starter full-time. Reported by who? Floyd's agent. He's old, comming off surgery, and can't throw the ball. He's a DH. I said this in January and we are now seeing the results: The Cubs are put together like a jigsaw puzzle with several pieces that don't fit. The sooner Hendry is gone, the better off the Cubs will be unless they hire another "baseball man" like Jim Bowden. Agreed. I don't believe it either. There's a reason why Floyd signed so late..He didn't have any takers and if you ask me going to the Cubs to be a "bench" player was probably one of his last options.
