  1. If this somehow falls through, I'll surely call my source and ask him what happened, but I doubt this falls through anyways. Good enough for me. Again, welcome to the board, if all of this is true, you'll be a hero...if not I have a feeling there may be a Modzilla sighting.
  2. That's true. It does add to the chances of him being a troll...I remember Dave/dovemason and his breaking news over at espn all the time...I just don't want "lurkers" to be afraid to post stuff like this in the future if they would come accross a "scoop"...If this doesn't happen, I'd like Sweetemotion to at least post again with an explanation from his source...I don't think just because it might not happen that it means he was trying to lead anyone on.
  3. I don't know if it will happen or not...considering the # of rumors I've seen that were false, I doubt it...but the thread has convinced me of one thing....I'll never share inside info until like 2 hours before it becomes public...2 days worth of people taking pot shots at my crediblity would be too much for me. Welcome to the forum Sweetemotion...if nothing else you've started a nice long thread.
  4. And what about that head, it's freakin' huge - like a watermelon on a toothpick! Its like Sputnick....Spherical, but quite pointy in parts.
  5. I agree. Any extra fire power...no matter who it ends up being...would really be appreciated before we head into Busch. It would mean the world to this Club (not to mention me)to walk in there and take all three.
  6. I'm there Sunday...maybe Friday. Hoping like heck (family friendly edit) that The Good Z shows up Friday and that we can put a few runs up on Carpenter...I think Prior Matches well against Suppan...always a fun weekend.
  7. BUMP Hairston, other than that grand slam, hasn't done squat as our leadoff hitter. He's been slumping for a while now. He has definitely not been the reason for our recent good offense. He may be doing a tad better than CP in the leadoff spot, but that's not saying much at all. how is an OBP of .367 batting leadoff "not doing squat." isn't it more that a "tad better" than Corey's .268 OBP in the leadoff spot? he's in a little mini-slump since the All star break. no big wup. Beyond that, Hairston will take some pitches and make the pitcher work a little, on the rare occassion Patterson attempted to work the pitcher, he'd fall right back into swing at anything mode the very next at bat. My point was that since CP was sent down Hairston hasn't done much, and that our recent string of Ws should not be attributed to him. .255/.305/.418 in the month of July. Barely better than CP, and CP totally sucked, so if he can't improve on CP.... 4/23 w/1 walk since the ASB. I'm glad he's there instead of Corey, who was a major daily downer, but to give Hairston more than a tiny bit of credit for our recent success is giving him too much. He did do well in the Florida series, along with many other Cubs, and not along with Florida, who played terribly, about as bad as we did versus Atlanta. If you could avoid mentioning anytime there is an Atlanta series directly followed by a Florida series it would be greatly appreciated...the memories are not good...
  8. If this has been discussed earlier in the thread, I appologize for being lazy and not reading it all...but is there any real explination for Pierre's drop of in average and obp this year? Prior to this year his 4 year average was really good and would have been a good pick up...but at .270/.317 I'm not sure he's an improvement at all. Anyone heard an explination for the dropoff?
  9. Gerut instead of Hollandsworth? How is that crap? If absolutely nothing else, this gives Dusty one less excuse to send Macias out on the field...a net improvment in my book.
  10. How sad is it that this is a huge improvement over what we were getting from Corey?
  11. Unfortunately he's past the age of breakout time. If he was going to break out, he should have done it by now. The vast majority of ballplayers are at their best at 27/28, and he's already 27 and will be 28 shortly, without doing much. His 2005 OBP is solid, and so were his minor league numbers, but his 2003 and 2004 numbers were not. There's some hope that he'll be able to show off some of that OBP ability from his minor league days, but he doesn't have much time to improve on his career numbers, given his age and service time. One factor that might be worth considering is that I'm pretty sure he was hurt and working through a significant injury during his 26-27 year old seasons...that might explain his lack of a "break out" and if he's healthy now, give at least some reason to believe that he could be ready for that break out at age 28. Just a thought.
  12. Maybe this suggestion deserves a different thread...but while looking Wells, I took a look at Frank Catalanatto's numbers...I think he'd look great in left field for the rest of the year...
  13. Ok...well at least i'm not the only one having issues with multiple posts.
  14. WOW.....We've scored more runs in the last 5 games than we had all year.....(ok...slight exageration)

  17. It does help to have two studs back, and one whiffer in the minors, and OBP guys at the top. I'm almost to the point where I refuse to believe that this team is the same team that went through that streak a few weeks ago. Its amazing what putting people in the right spots and letting them play will do.
  18. in the bullpen early again...I like it...maybe we should have done this all year...
  19. You act as if the Cubs would have to approve the trade or something. the Cards have at least 2 major league ready pitchers who are argueably better than anything the Cubs have. If Dunn goes to the Cards it will be becuase the Cards provided better goods to trade. I don't see how Hendry can be faulted here. Huh?? We've got plenty in our system, and at the ML level that could be moved for Dunn. I'd be hard pressed to think that we couldn't "out bid" for him. I think you miss my point. If we're fighting with say...the Yankees for him that's one thing...but to me, its different with the Cardinals. If the choice is down to between us and them, to me that increases his value to the Cubs, not only as a player for us, but to ensure that he doesn't go to the birds and help them for the next 10 years.
  20. All I know for sure is that if we would somehow let St.Louis get Dunn he is exactly the kind of guy that would come back and haunt us for the next 10 years. Jockety is smart enough to build him into a lineup that works. I DO NOT want him in a cardinals uniform.
  21. I understand, the three walks are a concern, but he's still not 100% either. I'm just glad to see a starter go this late in the game. After our bullpen was abused for a while, they need the extended rest. Hopefully they can get a nice week or two of consistent 7 inning outings, and they can get rid of the extra bullpen spot. I like the fact that Pittsburgh's first guy out of the pen has to throw 40-50 pitches...gotta figure that he won't be available tomorrow...
  22. Its a good thing we don't have names on the backs of the jerseys anymore...maybe it will take Blanco longer to remember who he is.
  23. I'd prefer Chone Figgins. But rarely do first place teams give up starting parts to help other teams out...
  24. #9 I wouldn't mind B.J. Upton...along with Huff and Baez...say for Cory, Hill and Williams and Ardsma?
