  1. I went to a middle school championship game tonight and I couldn't focus at all. I think I may have really seen only 5 plays. I had tears in my eyes with Eddie Vedder's song going over and over and over in my mind. I wore my Cubs hat and jersey and I only had 2 people say anything to me as I walked around (I live in Florida) -- but I didn't care. I was 12 years old again. Tonight I was in my bedroom listening to Lou Boudreau on the radio. I was watching Jack Brickhouse on WGN call Ernie Bank's 500th home run with his trademark, "Hey, Hey!" I was so excited about a routine ballgame in the summer of 1974 that I totally forgot about my last little league game of the year that day and the thought of it didn't occur to me until my Dad came home and asked if we had won. I said "yes." Of course, he meant my little league game. I meant the Cubs win. I joined this site in 2004, and while I haven't posted much, I have often been a part of the game threads. I've been here when no one was posting much on this board -- just 3 years ago. You guys, whether you know it or not, have been a big part of my Cubs life and I am thankful to celebrate the greatest game of our lives together.
  2. I like to think he started the rain last night. Awesome thought, man.
  3. Hey Gerrit Cole: Are the Cubs the best team in baseball?
  4. This was the greatest baseball game of my life. I started watching the Cubs in 1971 as a 10 year old boy. I watched Ernie hit his 500th home run called by Jack Brickhouse. I watched the terrible years of the 70's. I was crushed when we couldn't beat the Padres, and the Giants, and the Marlins....and every damn team in between. But this....this is what we've all been dreaming about. This is what we've been waiting for. No more waiting people. We are the World Champions and we lived to see it. Thank you 2016 Chicago Cubs for giving us one great season of joy to put all the other failures behind us forever.
  5. I am posting on a World Series, game 7 thread! Holy ^%$^# I've been waiting 45 years to see my team in the World Series. Literally a dream come true. One more to go!
  6. What the hell is Joe doing keeping Chapman in? I don't like this. I know Lester/Lackey will be available tomorrow, but why not bring Edwards in in the 8th and Strop in the 9th. We have a 5 frickin run lead.
  7. when are you going to realize that this is WHY bad things happen? That's kind of a philosophically profound statement. A little Quantum Physics?
  8. Contraras catching/Soler in right. We should score a ton of runs tonight.
  9. This home plate umpire sucks tonight.
  10. A Bryant homer here would greatly improve my night.
  11. Base running rule: Don't run until the pitcher takes his foot off the dirt. ugh
  12. Joe, that decision was terrible! Is it me, or has Joe been off lately? Geez.
  13. I don't think Theo would say that as the top baseball executive of the Cubs. That would be unprofessional. That wasn't Theo. Theo might say that...or at least something similar. He said something like "That was some Godfather [expletive]," today and has been known to say some stuff like that in the past, but in this case, Theo did not say that. Bragging about his offseason moves in front of the players using an expletive? I think Theo's better than that.
  14. I don't think Theo would say that as the top baseball executive of the Cubs. As the players' ultimate boss, that would be unprofessional. Sorry, that wasn't Theo.
  15. I can't who I remember reading this from, but I think it was in ESPN's review of the top 10 outfields. It mentioned that the fact that because Dexter Fowler remains yet unsigned, he and the Cubs might agree to some short term contract. I still think we are a good young starter away from my perfect off season. What about signing Fowler, keep Heyward at his natural position, and trade Soler for a good young starter? Possibility?
  16. If this team makes a world series, just makes a world series in the next 5-7 years, i will look back fondly at this year. I agree. Now I would have loved to see this team go to and win a WS this year, and I'm not saying I would rather it happen in five years, but just think how much more we will appreciate this particular team as they get better and better. Starting with their youth and seeing all of them bloom right before our very eyes, I can't help to think of how much sweeter a WS appearance/championship will be the more we get to know them -- just like we learn to love our own family more (as long as they don't suck) the more we spend time with them. Having said that, win the whole damn thing next year!
  17. Let's remember folks, the Cubs weren't supposed to get this far this year. I predicted 86-88 wins this year. We have a bright future. Sad to end it this way, but this team gave me a lot of fun...more fun than I've ever had with any Cubs team. We'll have more talent and more experience next year. It'll be an interesting off-season. In Theo I trust. Till next year, Cubbies.
  18. This is what I hate. Both teams are full of young players. Why the hell did it have to be US that collapsed spectacularly? Why couldn't their young pitching implode instead of our young hitting? Why did Arrieta suddenly peter out when the Mets pitchers are also pitching a lot of innings? Or maybe neither team collapses and we could actually have a competitive series? [expletive] luck. Absolutely the most frustrating series of the entire year. No leadoff hit in any inning. No lead in the entire series. Defensive lapses. Really sad to end our season this way.
  19. Theyve lost all these games because they cant score runs I understand that. I think they still have dongs in them (as Soler and Bryant K).
  20. I have no problem thinking the Cubs can score runs. I have every reason to believe they cannot hold the Mets with their defense and pitching.
  21. Can we have an umpire tonight?
  22. My hope is that the Cubs don't lay down. Give it the best you got. There's always a chance, no matter how slight.
