  1. "In Dusty we Trusty"
  2. Whew. I'm glad I'm not the only one. it's just people's roundabout way of saying "the Brewers play two more games than us, thus have two more chances to add wins than we do" Yes. At this point it means absolutely nothing unless one thinks the Brewers will win the rest of their games. Now, two up in the loss column with 3 games to play....Ok, now I'm concerned.
  3. viewtopic.php?t=44032 You can like a manager and still trash his dumb decisions. Like bringing out Z for the 6th yesterday. Of course, but that's not what I'm talking about. Before Lou was selected, the predominant attitude here was that he was not a good fit for the Cubs. In fact, many were downright upset with the thought of Lou as manager. It's almost like the forum has done a 180 degree turn (which is good because I think he's done a fine job). I'd be curious to see how Dusty was viewed on this forum right before game 6 of the NLCS. Ken
  4. Wow, it's really refreshing to see how most here have changed their minds about Lou. I can remember the week before his selection, there were a lot of people who really trashed him. I like him and don't mind him being our manager for the next couple of years.
  5. It's amazing that we are even debating whether a double is better than a home run. Man, has this thread gone to heII. Ken You know what's even better than the double? A single! Then we have two men on base still. And technically, we could move Quade over to second and pretend that the bases are loaded. Say that ARam comes up to bat, does he want to bat with no one on where he has to try to force out a homerun or does he want to bat with the BASES JUICED!!? Make Quade the second base coach, tell Ramirez that he's a base runner and BAM guaranteed win, it's science, ho. singles and doubles only clog up the bases, dude!

  7. I know Marquis has been pitching better as of late, but let's hope we don't need a one game playoff. I'd feel much more comfortable with either Z or Lilly.
  8. Great! When do they do the flip?
  9. Traschel again...he was good last time he pitched in a one game playoff. :D I'm just wondering with these 3 day rest decisions, if Lou is trying to manipulate the schedule in the event of a tie.
  10. I'm hoping it doesn't come to this, but with the Cubs and Brewers being tied in the loss column, a one-game playoff is a realistic possibility. First, where would they play? Second, who would pitch for us?
  11. Me too. I honestly think the Cubs have a decent chance to get to the big show. As long as we don't have to play San Diego first, I think we will have the advantage in the Division Series because of our pitching. But first things first. We have to get there. Ken
  12. Wow....the Cubs are first in all of MLB with a .245 BAA. They also have the 5th lowest ERA in baseball. Hmmm.....we could actually have a chance in the playoffs if our pitching keeps it up.
  13. I also have a dream. I have a dream that nations will be at peace with one another. I have a dream that people will learn to love and not hate. I also have a dream that people will put sporting events in their proper perspective and not get so worked up when other people have different views than them. Seriously, man, let people think what they want. It's only a game.
  14. I love him because he speaks what we think. He is a true fan of the game = just like us. That 26 minutes comment cracked me up.
  15. How bout putting Dempster in a non-save situation??? Terrible decision tonight. Thank God it worked out.
  16. Way to go, Ward!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Being a great 3rd baseman aside, I love how he is a great fan of the team. Some people make fun of his ramblings at times, but you can really tell he is genuine about his love for the Chicago Cubs. I put him in the same class as Harry, probably even a notch above since Santo has always been a Cub. Keep it up, Ron....we love you!
  18. I agree with everything here except for Jones. Strikes out twice and grounds into at least one DP.
  19. First, the Cubs have only made it to the postseason 11 in the last 99 years. According to my calculations, that's once every 9 years. One could argue that they've made it 1/5 years recently; then I would argue small sample size. I understand the concept, but what makes you think if we lose this year it will be any different than the other 98 years? AND, what will make this offseason different than last year when they addressed this problem and spent millions of dollars? I may be alone in this but I think Lou will help Hendry see what is needed to win and hopefully steer Hendry in the right direction. Lou has repeatedly said he wants hitters that take pitches and hopefully he'll show Hendry the light. If the Cubs win and go to the playoffs, it might even prove Lou's point even more when good pitchers expose that weakness on the big stage. Lou certainly didn't have much influence on the Soriano signing then. Seriously, this guy hacks at everything. Yeah, he goes through streaks where he hits a ton of homers, but he also goes through streaks where he looks like an absolute fool at the plate. Maybe, because Lou had not yet mananged the team, he didn't feel he had earned Hendry's respect to dissuade him from signing Soriano. Unfortunately, we are stuck with an 8 year, gazillion dollar contract for a guy who swings at everything at the plate. Not wise, and certainly contadicts Lou's OBP philosophy -- IF that truly is his philosophy. Ken
  20. I think you and every else who thinks this is a dumb or stupid thread are missing the point. The point is: What will it take for the Cubs to be a winning organization?? One opinion says that major suckage is the way to go. Get the fans so sick of mediocrity and consistently not making the playoffs that you'll finally see a philosophy change from managment. To be fair, we've been sucking for a long time and management hadn't really done a whole lot to change that. The other opinion is that "winning makes everything better." In other words, if we win, no matter how sloppily, management will change. I think the author's reasoning is that if we barely scrape into the playoffs, this would be enough to keep bringing the fans into Wrigley and keep managment from really changing the PHILOSOPHY of this team. There truly is a problem with this organization and it's been a problem for a long, long time. The philosophy needs an major overhall. This club has a lot of holes and it's managment's fault. I just hope either way, whether we win or lose, managment will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to bring a championship to the Northside. Ken
