  1. It was an illustration of how classless fans are. Justified or not, going after Hawkins like that was wrong and unethical. The two situations are so utterly incomparable that your point -- whatever it was -- was lost. There's simply no comparison. And, I think it's disgusting that you would even compare the two. Perhaps it wasn't the best comparison, but calling it disgusting is a bit of an overreaction, IMO. Well, that's funny. Because that's exactly what I think about all of the self-righteous posters who are feigning indignation at the treatment of Hawkins.

  3. Are you seriously comparing the Wrigley fans chanting "Hawkins Sucks" with fans cheering for a player's potentially life-threatening injury? Speechless. I'm simply speechless.
  4. I agree with you. that is some horrible classless action. Nonsense. The dude is obviously a mental midget. Kudos to the crowd for trying to get into his head. (Whether a guy with a 3.00 ERA deserved the treatment that he got while he was a Cub is a different story)
  5. Huh? If it was rescheduled as the "night" part of a day night doubleheader, the Cubs would be replacing a night game (tonight) with a night game (the make-up). How would that affect the number of night games? Show me where the Cubs have another night game against the Giants. I don't think you're following what I'm saying. Hypothetically, let's say the Cubs have a limit of 24 night games. (I say "hypothetically" only because I don't know the precise limit) Further, let's assume that the Cubs have exactly 24 night games on their schedule. If tonight's game was rained out, it would be removed from the schedule. So, there would be 23 night games on the schedule. Accordingly, the Cubs could make the game up tomorrow night (as past of a day-night doubleheader) without exceeding the limit on night games. If a DAY game is rained out, the Cubs are unable to make it up at night. I do get what you're saying. What I'm saying is that i know the city of Chicago approves the night game list months before the season starts, and I don't think they allow making up of night games on nights where there's no scheduled night game. The limit, by the way, is 30. The Cubs also scheduled a pair of Jimmy Buffett concerts, one of which is at night, which the city is tremendously unhappy about. The city of Chicago has already punished the Cubs for scheduling Buffett by taking away one of their night games for next year, so they will only be able to have 29. Also the Cubs have already agreed that they will not have any more concerts next year. As I am sure that the Cubs would have to go through the city in order to reschedule this game at night, I think making a night game, especially tomorrow night, is out of the question. I may be wrong, but I doubt it. I have no knowledge regarding whether the city has to approve the precise dates of Cub night games. If so, that would preclude the Cubs from making it up tomorrow night. But, that has no relation to the limited "number" of night games that the Cubs have, which is the purported justification in your first post. So, while you may be right (I don't know one way or the other), it's not for the reason you stated.

  7. Huh? If it was rescheduled as the "night" part of a day night doubleheader, the Cubs would be replacing a night game (tonight) with a night game (the make-up). How would that affect the number of night games? I thought all their night games were only Sunday-Tuesday? I don't think there is any rule precluding Wednesday/Thursday night games, but, in any event, that's a different issue entirely.

  9. Yes but Dusty is OBSESSED with having the lineup RLRLRLR against Righty's. I bitched about this last week, no one seemed to agree, or they just didn't respond. But it irritates the hell out of me. Dusty has his obsessions, and they have to be ripped out of his hands for him not to use them, be it players, or strategies. I'm the biggest Dusty hater out there. Yet, I'm thrilled that he's finally seen the light regarding altermnating his lefty and righty hitters, especially against the National League's micromanagers (See, e.g. Larussa, Alou). Two nights in a row the Cubs have benefitted from the L-R-L-R lineup. Managers like Larussa and Alou can't help but habitually change pitchers in the 7th/8th innings to take advantage of purported lefty/righty platoon splits. In the process, they waste their relievers on one batter. As a result, the other manager runs out of quality relievers and the Cubs face Al Reyes and Jeff Fassero with the game on the line. In contrast, last year Baker hit Patterson/Walker back-to-back (1-2) too many times. When they played the Cardinals, you could absolutely guarantee that the final two times through the Cub order, Patterson/Walker would see Ray King and Steve Kline. Now, with the lefties spread the Cub lineup, LaRussa isn't able to so effectively utilize his lefty specialists. As to Ramirez "protecting" Lee: If your fear is that teams will walk Lee with Burnitz hitting behind, you should not be scared. If Derrick Lee walks every single time he comes to the plate, the Cubs will score more runs than if teams pitch to him. That's a fact.
  10. They suck. They don't get on base. The manager is an idiot. They've lost 7 in a row are 13 games out of first place, and are chasing innumerable better teams for the wild card. But, OH MY GOD SOME REPORTER DOESN'T THINK THEY'RE CONTENDERS? LMAO
