  1. Watching Jim Leyland bat Neifi in the top 2 spots in the order several times this year (among other things) makes me think he'd be just as bad as Dusty, even though he's probably going to win the MOY. Right place, right time, if you ask me. To give Leyland credit he did bench Perez and he hasn't played much since. Baker would have let him hit out of his slump in the 2 spot. Jim Leyland does nearly all of the things that standard Dusty bashers list every week, including the ultimate hair-pulling early inning sacrifice bunts. I watched a game three weeks ago where Leyland laid down 4 sacrifice bunts before the 7th inning. I would have had them put down 5 bunts! IMO, Hendry will look at the Tigers and get a manager like Leyland, especially if the Tigers move forward in the playoffs. I think he'll get a kick butt guy that will "motivate" the players.
  2. I don't think the Big 10 is good enough this year for that to happen. Penn State is down and it might depend on how good Iowa does from here on too. If Michigan played a tougher non conference schedule...even one tough team other than ND, they might have had a shot.
  3. Yeah but Rutgers is 2-0 vs BCS schools while Missouri is 1-0 so hah! I think once a team is 6-0 or 7-1 they have earned respect when I look at the schedules. TCU is a team that I think can sneak in an undefeated record with that schedule. I don't think they play a top 40 team all year.
  4. What would that put the payroll at?
  5. And what happens if Michigan is that one loss team? IMO, they have to root for Michigan to lose twice.

  7. And Georgia deserves to be in the top 10 because of those big time victories over W. Kentucky, S. Carolina, UAB and a one point win over a winless Colorado? I think you could say that about a lot of the 4-0 teams, yes...even Missouri.
  8. Because the Big East is weak or because WV is just that good? I think Louisville is as good as any team in the country and they just beat an Undefeated Kansas St in Kansas with their backup QB and backup RB. Also, the Big East has one of the strongest bottom 4's in College football, if not, show me a bottom 4 that are better.
  9. I thought Smith looked like he was panicking and his team followed his lead. That was a nice comback by the Irish but Michigan St has to look for a new coach.
  10. That isn't a smart move unless he only threw a few pitches. What part of the game was the delay?
  11. I was watching when Kruk was on and thought either A) Kruk did not read the article or B) he is the dumbest person to ever be employed as an analyst. Then I realized that Kruk is probably to dumb to be able to read and both choices are right. I do not know the name of the guy that Kruk was talking to while on the "Hot Seat" but he seemed to be in disbelief by Kruks answer. He asked Kruk about the unnamed players that were being critical of Arod which just seemed to confuse Kruk and he just repeated his first answer. Imagine how intellegent he would be if the Johnson fastball did hit him in the head. Yep, that little antic got him a nice job with ESPN.
  12. The 5 degrees of separation of Jim Hendry. That's on WGN, right?
  13. Syracuse continues it's Midwest tour....any Miami of Ohio fans out there?
  14. Why should everyone expect other teams to stand still. That's like saying if the Cards, Reds, Astros, Brewers, and Pirates stink up the joint, the Cubs might make the playoffs. The Sox had a chance to make a deal at midseason and chose not to. I said the biggest difference, not the only one. Could they have made a move, sure. Would it have improved them, I don't know. The Cards didn't make any moves and they are in first while the Reds did and they faded away.
  15. Didn't Hendry say they were trying to resign Pierre? I thought he did.
  16. Or maybe he's not good at sharing the knowledge. Having the ability doesn't mean you can get others to learn to do what you do. Hank seems to disagree with you.
  17. No, thats the advice that McGwire gave to a young Giambi. Not the advice Maddux gave to a young Marshall. That's good.
  18. That quote is so infuriating to me because Maddux was here for 2.5 years and I don't think any young pitcher improved during that time. He can't teach them to pitch. Just like Jordan can't coach players to be great. I think Maddux helped them in ways that may not show up now but later. The Cubs had a bunch of kids up this year and I don't think we'll see the results until next year or the year after. It's not like some magic rub Greg gave them, just some tips on how to better themselves and we'll see how they impliment them to their own abilites. IMO, Maddux has a wealth of knowledge and you can't lose by listening to what he has to say. And I bet you don't really gain much of anything either. I disagree. I've talked to a few ex MLB pitchers of late and you'd be amazed at some of the things they mention that I wouldn't have thought of or expanded what I already knew and none where at Gregs level. Gooney, it may even just be one time to get out of a tough situation when they think back at something Maddux said and maybe that's all it helped, but it helped. For some, it might mean more than to others. I'd love to hear Maddux talk about pitching for even five minutes one on one. It's also been proven that sometimes peer teaching is a wonderful way of teaching pupils/players something that teachers/coaches may not be able to do. They sometimes have a way of saying it in better ways or in a manner student/players could learn easier from. I agree it doesn't always work but when you have someone you respect like a Maddux talking, I think these guys would listen more than to Rothschild, maybe not all but some. Heck, wasn't it Hank that the article was quoted from...a catcher? I do beleive that very good information is there for them to take but how they apply or applied it is up to them.
  19. I would rather go in another direction than those 2 CF wise myself. As some have mentioned even moving Jones over to CF and getting a good bat for right would be better for this team.

  21. Baseball career wise correct? Because this is just a game. Just a game? I wish I was that casual about baseball. Baseball = Life! Although my wife will disagree.. I understand what you're saying but after what has happened to Raush and Lee's little girl a little perspective is needed.
  22. Just a motivational tool, that's all that is.

  24. I think the biggest difference with the White Sox is that Detroit had a good year. If they stink up the joint like they did last year the Sox are the Wild Card team.
