Two words. Contract. Year. 2002 was a contract year for him as well, and he was suprisingly less idiotic then, too, and took the Giants to the World Series. I don't buy that for a second. He has the tools to manage more effectively this year and is doing a fine job thus far! That's true, he does have the tools to manage more effectively, or that maybe Jim Hendry has "Dusty-proofed" this team in a way. But it's also his contract year, and I would be betting that if he did get the Cubs in the World Series, more than likely he will be looking for a big pay-day on his next contract negoiations.
