  1. ok, so Cates looks ok. Struggles with the zone? He strikes out a good amount (8/9ip in the MDWST league at 21), and didn't give up many hits (107 in 118 IP), so i suppose if he doesn't work as a starter he could be a decent relief guy? not real sure. 3rd round pick.
  2. i love the crap out of this deal, actually. Cashner has a chance, but i'll take a humongous star potential everyday player over a pitcher in limbo with great stuff but has already been injured too often
  3. apparently so. mlb trade rumors is running with it, as well as MLB's official twitter. huh...
  4. San Diego Padres @Padres 1m Reply Retweet Favorite · Open #Padres acquire former 1st-round pick RHP Andrew Cashner and outfielder Kyung-Min Na from #Cubs in exchange for INF Rizzo and RHP Cates Retweeted by Follow The Padres
  5. it's just funny how precise the inversion is. like the seinfeld episode when costanza went oppo on everything in his life and stuff got exactly as good as had been bad.
  6. well, I am a big fan of Pynchon. and "the Red Sox's model"
  7. it's funny. as if exchanging our former front office for the current one inverted the usual winter trade hype; instead of dealing for _____, it's become dealing away garza; instead of win or hendry should be fired, it's we expect you to lose and total free pass of acceptance; rather than shouts for increasing payroll, things are being apparently scaled back... it feels like a Pynchon novel.
  8. was going to suggest that a slick gloved middle infielder makes a lot of sense as one of the two guys, other being a relief type project they can use either later '12 or in '13.
  9. if they can move soriano, jackson/dejesus/byrd would be a damn good defense. stewart is supposed to be good, right? castro will improve. prince is more than adequate. hope springs eternal, i suppose
  10. because i actually don't mind that. you have 5 guys each very capable of being right around 3.5 ERA the homerun stuff would kinda frighten me, however
  11. Garza Dempster Zambrano Kuroda Wood (Cashner) tickle anyone's fancy as a redeemable rotation?
  12. i'll never understand this foolishness on wade davis guys like jon morosi are splattering against the wall. sure a move to petco would greatly benefit his numbers, but no matter, san diego has at least 3 guys equal to davis in the wings. davis is highly inconsistent and joe maddon has never really liked him as a starter. you should go back and read the post-davis start tweets he sends out.
  13. i quite like kuroda and have a good feeling he will be on the starting staff for the cubs next year. he is a good 2, or a very good 3, and without looking at stats right now always reminds me of the consistency of dempster before last year. i think he fits well with the cubs' front office ideas of finding a way to compete now while loading up for the future. won't take too much money or years to sign, but is realistically as good as anything out there.
  14. have always been a big fan of kyle blanks, injuries aside
  15. travis hafner might be fair, but that mo vaughn schtick is ridiculous. fielder works way too hard to be reduced to that kind of fodder. even then, from all public conversations i've been privy to, hafner is half as smart as fielder. realize this is intangible bs, but it still must be considered. mind doesn't stop a bad body from breaking down, but if a guy has a will and work ethic, he is more likely to buck the trend, & with fielder i think he is as good of a bad body to do so as baseball has seen. i'd say he's more between hafner and a guy like frank thomas.
  16. aha! thought i'd picked the dejesus signing, somehow, but kept forgetting to check. wamp wamp
  17. didn't realize that Stewart was BA's #4 prospect a handful of years back. I like the idea of him, but his numbers coming down from Coors will combat that, so I hope for better.
  18. on board with fielder. though i guess it's hard not to be. other than body issues down the road. but i think the new cba has shifted their deck mightily. sorry. i'm not saying anything that hasn't been said.
  19. this joker on the score is comparing the personalities of Sveum and Lovie Smith, calling them similar. huh?
  20. these major acts of sports figures using public, local news outlet as stream to communicate wide-seen letters of thanks is kind of the flavor of the lately, huh? i guess this sort of pseudo is it's logical near-extreme.
  21. i posted this question in the comment section on the front page article, but, to pose it to the community here, anyone worry about split messages between Sveum and Jaramillo concerning the club's approach to hitting philosophies and instruction? How do you think the two will match/clash?
