  1. Here is a Kerry Wood Q&A over at Baseball Prospectus last week that I didn't see receive here at NSBB. The reason I post this is because what he had to say about pitching coaches, and who he dealt with and their coaching approaches deals specifically with Larry Rothschild, and seemed telling. This is subscriber info, so if it's a problem, please remove it mods.
  2. There is a great thread in the minors forum about Cubs' prospects in the news, and I figured I'd throw this in as a sort of catch all for random bits of analysis from different sites, or just things about Cubs big league players that don't merit their own thread. Fangraphs has two different articles of interest up today: A Miles Pun Buy Low on Soto
  3. if they do jersey shirts of that road grey, i would seriously consider buying a joe mauer.
  4. I always thought they were one of the blackest teams around. With Jermaine Dye. And Frank Thomas. And Kenny Williams.
  5. Anderson was garbage in 09, yes, but hope remains. He was a highly touted guy before he fell off a cliff this year. That a guy like Josh Reddick gets love when he is as average as possible explains it better. Oh man, yeah, Ian Kennedy is nothing. haha. Ian Kennedy. To be fair though, Montero is the best prospect out of all the guys you just listed. But the White Sox have a better package amongst those you listed.
  6. Rob, I'm assuming when you say the Tiger fans expect Jackson, you are lumping both Brett and Jay into one Jackson lump? It'd only make sense that they get both along with Vitters and Castro. At least
  7. I thought Goldstein was still pretty down on the system. Saying we had a big turnaround, but we still weren't in the top half. I could be wrong on that. Yeah, I may have taken something he said to that effect and put it in that context.
  8. They were speaking specifically of their system, though.
  9. yeah, most analysts like callis and goldstein have said we should be in that area.
  10. Jesus Montero should be good, but when i hear things like "the cubs are interested in granderson and may be willing to part with some top prospects, and that may be good enough, but if the yankees get involved the cubs won't stand a chance" on the radio from guys with no obvious knowledge of the Cubs farm system, let alone the Yankees minor league guys (lets face it, even the sports writers in Chicago can't get Starlin Castro's name right), then you know there is a built up bias towards east coast teams. Maybe not the mets as much as the yankees and red sox, however.
  11. they make more money off of people being imprisoned on petty weed charges than they would off of taxes were it legal. you pay for these things already in your taxes.
  12. Uniforms are here like the greys Stadium video is here the actual field/seats/view/scoreboard stuff is kind of dull imo. The walkways and extras look pretty cool. I hope that this gets the Twinkies the sort of revenue to retain Mauer long term.
  13. While people are throwing out RTRs, I'll throw one out: Lee + prospects for Granderson and Miggy.
  14. Daniel Hudson is going to be very, very good. Mark my words. If he plays in Petco... A rotation starting with Latos and Hudson would be a step in the right direction. Isn't Vlad's contract nearly up? Konerko can't be much more than a DH to just about any team at this point. Edit: Of course that still pales in comparison to Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, and Sanchez (not that I'm super high on Sanchez, but he's a good back end guy).
  15. Fangraphs' Hulet did a AFL write up today
  16. I think Lee, Carpenter and Huseby will separate themselves into the 4 star tier of Cub prospects. Vitters will be right on the line between 4 and 5, while Cashner and Castro maintain a 5 star status. Brett Jackson is someone I really like a lot, and hopefully JJax gets a chance to prove himself at higher levels. I think these guys, along with Archer, Castillo, and Berg, are the only ones we will see ML production from in the near future. Other guys are mostly fodder, no? Edit: Forgot about Burke. Sorry, Burke
  17. CHONE projections are up for hitters. Pitchers will probably arrive shortly.
  18. Chone projects Bradley to tie with Aramis Ramirez as the top Cubs batter for R150.
  19. This thread got insane when I saw a few Dexter Morgan posts I agreed with.
  20. Castro isn't going anywhere. Now Vitters on the other hand...
  21. a season to forget is being kind. he's a control pitcher with no plus pitches who had no control last year. he is nothing we don't already have.
  22. What's up with Diamond's fly ball rate?
  23. 1) What do you mean by upgrade? 2) Castro at short and Theriot at second will be happening sooner than later, so there isn't a long term need at second necessarily. Shortly after this, it should be a Castro/Lee (maybe LeMahiu) dp combo, hopefully for quite some time. We could certainly do worse than Castillo, but in no way is he an upgrade to Bradley, and by no means would he serve a long term need. I'm still rolling with Millwood.
  24. This. People are being blinded by his stellar first half of 2009, but ignoring the rest of his career? He had an ERA of 5.07 and a WHIP of 1.53 in the second half, which is much more in line with his career 4.66 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. Edwin Jackson shouldn't cost anyone more than a a couple fringe MLB prospects. He's not special, we have plenty of guys who can produce similar, if not better, numbers. Yup. Edwin Jackson is like the big league version of Carlos Carrasco. If he only put it all together, and could keep it that way... He has the stuff, but I doubt he has it figured out, and he really isn't that young anymore.
