it's kind of odd to hear the gushing over the young position players(cedeno and murton)... i can't remember a time where they've been all about two guys like this.

you guys don't think this is money well spent if all the guy does is help the younger pitchers in AAA learn how to pitch in the majors and nothing else? -
why is it that, no matter how well he does, barrett always ends up hitting seventh or eighth?

I'd be interested to see if Hairston's OBP last season was inflated by his HBPs. He'd definitely be a better option than Neifi. AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS Hairston 380 51 98 24 2 4 138 30 31 46 0.258 0.332 0.363 0.695 If you subtract out Hairston's 11 HBP's, that OBP drops to .314. what if he's just good at getting hbp? a walk is a walk. should people count that against guys like Bonds or Biggio too?

it works with walker and hairston well, but if neifi hits second, then pierre shouldn't steal, because after perez it will be pierre at second with one out and lee up. hmm. one would imagine that being in a contract year baker might try to be smart. guess not.

i am all for getting carlos lee, whenever he plays at wrigley he rakes; but what happens to matt murton if he has a very good season in 06? you are still stuck with jock in right... and pie is also on the horizon. imagine a 3-5 of lee lee and ramirez =P~ One of Murton (if he does well) or Carlos can play right. I don't care about Jones. Trade him away for all I care. Pie can play center and ship away Pierre if he plays up to expectations. Or you can keep Lee in left, put Pie in right, and trade away Murton and Jones. sure we could very easily trade murton, but who would want jones for that price? if they can't trade him he'll play. they aren't going to bench that salary regardless if there are better options or not.

i don't understand. we have all this money to spend, what do you spend it on? i mean, if this doesn't get done before the end of the year he will more than likely go FA. and if he does he will go somewhere else. who is your other option at first when he goes? how do you make up for lee's production in 2007 if you let him walk by not paying him what the market, over paying or not, currently dictates?

Intresting question. Money and team needs aside, would you rather have Lee or Tejada? Both are 30, Lee puts up better numbers however he plays 1B. PECOTA projects 06 VORP: Tejada - 52.5 Lee - 51.1 That's so close it's pretty much meaningless. Lee plays better defense however it's 1B vs SS so that's not quite fair. SS's tend to age a little better than 1B but considering Lee's athleticism he might be an exception. Close call for me. yeah that's tough. you could say there are alot more power guys at first than short, so lee could be easier to replace, but he really is the all around package, power, avg, speed, glove, etc, etc. and iirc, lee is younger. so i think you'd have to take lee.
