  1. I've said before, I have no problem with the manager preaching play the game the right way, as long as you have a front office that is looking for talent rather than grit. Its not a bad arrangement. reverse it and you have problems.
  2. fixed How about we just add eventually between Theo and coming? No because then people will make dumb jokes like "well there is a Red Sox-Cubs series at Wrigley next summer!" too late.
  3. We tried that surely he's joking. shirley? Or it could be that I haven't kept up with the ins and outs of all this drama, thus why I admitted Apparently it was, which is fine with me. But thanks for answering the question. Major props. wasn't calling you stupid. really thought you were joking. big thread. no stupid questions here, only stupid organizations.
  4. gooney died. jersey killed him. right, but I thought maybe he changed his name again, with all the gooney references and no jersey to be seen. I should have just let it go over my head...clearly not worth it. when someone changes their name they usually leave their old name in their avatar for a period of time (see Tremon aka Treeman). Jersey lost his old avatar (gooney) along time ago, its been awhile since he's been called that. and actually, I think the board really did eat the gooney avatar. It just disappeared. My biggest question is who is C.C. and how do I not recognize a guy with 23,000 posts? Also is he serious in this thread with his 23% crap. Also, also, how did he survive 23,000 posts here with that insanity?
  5. Wait, who the hell are you? So confused! is there a thread where people announce name changes. Help me understand who is making fun of whom and for what, especially when the things they are making fun of them for happened several years ago. i.e. several references to gooney and I'm not even sure who he is anymore. gooney died. jersey killed him. right, but I thought maybe he changed his name again, with all the gooney references and no jersey to be seen. 8. Post counts, plz.
  9. I just moved to the St. Louis area on Saturday. Still "living" in a hotel. Crazy week. Dirty Birds everywhere.
  10. I haven't lived in New York in six years. My last name has Wood in it; my sn has nothing to do with Kerry.
  11. With Theo in the fold, I could come around on Sandberg. I would rather have a GM that looks for talent, and a manager that pushes that talent to be all they can be than have a GM that looks for hard workers and a manager/coaching staff that tries to make them talented.
  12. Once Theo is in the fold, couldn't he wait a year to hire a gm?
  13. Friedman, Beane, Cashman Possibly Byrnes, Hoyer, Atlanta guy, Cherington, and the Tampa assistant that's supposed to be really good, Hahn to a lesser extent. I don't consider that entire list equal, but I consider every one of them to be at least the equal of Epstein + $13 million (in extra salary) plus McNutt. Which is why I included "near equal" and only said 4-5, you ignorant SOB. I hope you die. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I'm pretty sure that ignorant SOB just agreed with you.
  14. chirp chirp.
  15. Jesus Not to further derail this thread, but how much difference would Carlos Silva have made over that list of "scrubs"?
  16. Yom Kippur is almost over.
  17. I love that the Cubs are the proverbial prettiest girl at the ball, but don't tease me like this. They are more like the sluttiest girl at prom. The new guy is guaranteed to get laid that night, but if things aren't handled the right way, things can get crazy in a hurry, and he may wind up regretting that prom night the rest of his life. So you're saying the Cubs have herpes?
  18. It's not so much the 200 hits. It's the 200 hits prior to age 22. Which would make him the 10th to ever do that... Ty Cobb, Al Kaline, Joe DiMaggio, Buddy Lewis, Vada Pinson, Alex Rodriguez, Garry Templeton, Hal Trosky, and Lloyd Waner. I think we all know that Starlin needs to improve his defense, take more walks, and hit for more power. Luckily, at least the first and third of those things tend to get better as players enter their prime, which Starlin is probably 2 or 3 years away from. or 4...or 5. He's really young.
  19. Our Cubs have quietly gone from absolutely putrid to merely very bad.
  20. Taken from the comments section: PTBNL
  21. so when cub management goes down to iowa or tennessee to see how guys are playing and evaluate whether they might be able to make a positive contribution to the big club, what is that called? "watching"? davearm, you've allowed your argument to be derailed into what he does, but your original point was right on. Wilken and Fleita serve in totally different roles.
  22. Ricketts hired him back in July, but has kept it secret.
