  1. These weren't "dumps" we got extremely good value for him. So far, all of these moves make the most sense in the "our cap is $55.2 million and we intend on resigning Hjalmarsson and Niemi no matter what" scenario.
  2. Hockey's future ranks him as the No. 2 prospect in the Atlanta Thrashers' system (ranked No. 7 overall) and would be tied for first in our system. That's highway robbery for Ladd's RFA rights.
  3. The sign and trade would clear cap space, presumably. They are very close to enough space for two max as it is.
  4. That was never confirmed. It doesn't seem to work with a layman's read of the CBA, but you never know how these things will actually work out.
  5. On another note, the Blackhawks prospect depth is amazing at this point. They don't have any guys who are going to step in and be stars, but they are going to just keep churning out Versteeg-quality forwards and defensemen for the next decade.
  6. I think Bowman's just posturing. He said no more cap moves were needed a few days ago then traded Versteeg. (Granted, the more I read about Stalberg, the more excited I am for him).
  7. This is why you use named sources. When things go wrong, they look bad and not you. I hate that so many "journalists" have sold that out.
  8. With that, some of the main players are probably getting shut out in free agency. Not enough chairs when the music stops.
  9. If the reported $55.2 cap is correct, forget about Ladd, most likely.
  10. I'm sure once we fire Piniella, we'll get a manager who follows stathead analysis in day-to-day lineup decisions.
  11. I didn't accuse you of anything. I just mocked the idea that these are "significant" losses for the Blackhawks. Would we prefer to keep them in a capless world? Sure. But I'm not particularly worried about them.
  12. Look at it this way: 09-10 Kris Versteeg: 0.42 even-strength points per game, playing with the Blackhawks 09-10 Viktor Salberg:0.30 even-strength points per game, playing with the Maple Leafs Put Stalberg on Versteeg's lines and give him power-play time, and I don't think the production is all that different. Not enough to make up for the $2 million or so difference in salaries.
  13. Ladd yes, Bolland absolutely not, Sharp 99% not. And 100 points is not hard in the NHL. This isn't baseball, where everybody in the lineup takes a turn. The NHL is a top-heavy league. The Blackhawks will be icing the same top-4 defensemen and five of their best six forwards from last year.
  14. Keep telling yourself that. You've listed a No. 6 defender, two 40-point wingers from an organization absolutely loaded at wing, and a fourth-line center. Oh noes, we're doooooooomed!
  15. My guesses: $1.8 on a short-term deal, $3.0 on a long-term deal, and $2.2 on a short-term deal.
  16. I'm going to go ahead and say it: Bowman is amazing. He correctly identified the right two guys to move, and he got way more for them than I expected. If the reported cap numbers are correct, we shouldn't need to lose any more guys. We lost a sixth defenseman, made a slight downgrade at 4th line center, and lost a pair of second-rate wingers, and got back a ton of organizational depth. This team will be right back in the thick of it next year.
  17. As far as I can tell, that should be it, unless someone goes nuts on an offer sheet for one of our RFAs. I think we can even afford to keep Ladd.
  18. Sweatt was a guy we had already decided wasn't worth the cost of signing him. Stalberg is the Leaf's No. 5 prospect, scouting report here: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/viktor_stalberg DiDiadsgasilhf was No. 12 http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/chris_didomenico Paradis No. 13 http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/philippe_paradis These guys are all overrated because they are Toronto prospects, but Stalberg is a nice get. HockeysFuture rating of Stalberg would put him tied with Olson and Beach for the best in the organization.
  19. BTW, it was posted on HFboards today that someone got the Sun-Times beat reporter to respond to him and say that Bowman said the only bonus cap hit is the $1.3 million for Toews for the Conn Smythe, not the total of $4 million and change that had been reported. That and the Versteeg trade are very good moves. Versteeg and Byfuglien were nice players, especially when they were cheaper, but they are overrated and not worth tying up precious cap space on.
  20. I think it's actually a scale ranking the goalies by how much the Blackhawks own them. The higher the tier the more we own them. Luongo is in Tier -90000
  21. Agreed. Let the other teams deal with these guys Championships are stupid.
  22. I like the phrase those two Chicago sports radio guys (whose names I don't feel like looking up to spell correctly) use: "Fun bad." If the Cubs are bad, I want them to be fun bad.
  23. I'd take Jordan too, but not because Kobe played with Shaq for awhile. The whole counting rings thing is silly.
  24. His first three aren't included because people want to find any way they can to discount him and pimp Jordan.
