  1. Baez's OPS would lead the Southern League if he qualified. Just a 20-year-old leading the league in OPS with a lowish BABIP while improving his SS defense. NBD
  2. Baez 0-2 double the opposite way.
  3. It's musical chairs. I have no idea what sort of inducements the minor and major league teams give each other to make the deal work.
  4. Oddly enough, the owners of the Daytona Cubs do seem to be based out of Ohio. I wonder what the story is there. But it's way harder to just create a minor league team out of thin air than that seems to imply. They are for-profit businesses.
  5. Who would own them? Where would they play?
  6. Just for the sake of argument, the Carolina League has eight teams, seven of which are on Player Development Contracts that all expire in 2014 (the 8th is owned by its MLB franchise). Lynchburg, Potomac and Frederick are all close enough to their MLB counterparts that they get a boost in popularity and probably wouldn't be interested in switching. You'd have to target one of the four remaining teams and hope they want to make a switch.
  7. I was excited about both.
  8. After the FAs drop off, you are at 39, with only one catcher. You can boot off that first tier of guys you listed, but then when you add on Rule 5 protectees, you are almost full again. It's nothing we can't work with, but it will be one of the toughest offseasons we've ever had for roster space. There will be a ton of the gaming like we did last year.
  9. .802 OPS in AAA with a .392 BABIP. We've entered the phase of the season where we're trying to fill holes with guys we don't mind cutting in the offseason in preparation for some tough 40-man decisions.
  10. The Patterson-era minor league organization was not shallow, even on the position player end.
  11. I don't think we know that they are going to lose more than they win between now and the end of the season.
  12. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/02/2015-mlb-free-agents.html Looking at the post-2014 free agents, and knowing Kershaw will get some insane extension, you may have to accept that good FA classes are a thing of the past.
  13. That was supposed to be Wood. Fixed.
  14. The 2014 Renovation Initial Outlay Roster AKA Tom Ricketts' Wet Dream Non-tender Ransom Trade Barney and Villanueva for pitching prospects at the winter meetings Lake/DeJesus/Schierholtz (Ha, Bogusevic) Olt/Castro/Watkins/Rizzo (Valbuena, Vitters) Castillo (some random cheap veteran for $750k) Samardzija/Jackson/Wood/Arrieta/Grimm Strop/Russell/Lim/Cabrera/Bowden/Rusin/Rosscup Projected price tag (including some arbitration estimates): $69m. You could probably have a shot to avoid 90 losses and dazzle some fans with how homegrown and prospecty it is.
  15. The first 10, though we don't technically know who will be type A yet. Maybe I've been too absorbed with work lately, but I thought they got rid of the whole type A/B/C thing and just work off who gets a qualified offer and who doesn't. I just meant that the guys receiving qualifying offers are analogous to "Type A."
  16. The first 10, though we don't technically know who will be type A yet.
  17. I keep the legacy of NSBBLOL alive, but only in my heart and not on an actual blog.
  18. Silver lining being Gretzky lost a flyball in the sun for a double and a Penalver error after that. Yeah. I consider that to be a perfectly solid line from Zastryzny.
  19. Our infield depth has been atrocious from day one, though. This isn't just a punting thing.
  20. What's our team OPS for this series, I wonder, and how does it compare with our runs scored?
  21. We're back to being horribly unlucky. Nah. Sometimes the team is just bad for a while. It can be both. We're bad, but we're not as bad as our horrible sequencing is making it seem.
  22. A guy we didn't mind adding to the 40-man because we don't mind cutting him at the end of the season.
