  1. Cuban infielder Aledmys Diaz is eligible to sign with teams starting today. Cotillo reported last week that he'd start fielding offers yesterday and sign within a few days. There was an almost-certainly-fake report over at BCB that he was signing with the Cubs, but it got me thinking. Wouldn't it be cool if we did? We've got tons of money unspent. And despite the projection for next year, at the moment we have two pretty big holes in the infield. He's projected to get $20m-$30m and is considered either MLB-ready or very close.
  2. Don't forget Cubs demand a team option with all pre-FA extensions.
  3. Where did we put Frandy de la Rosa last year?
  4. I didn't get that far into the article. I sat down and cried after I read the massive, Pujolsian beej they gave to Oscar Tavares.
  5. Holy balls, Jesse, spit the question out in 50 words or fewer. Epstein says they've given up on dual fronts.
  6. Of course he did. A month of thinnish-air baseball and pitchers trying to warm up for the season by grooving fastballs? I'm setting the over-under on Cactus League Javybombs at 15
  7. That's axiomatic. But a HS pitcher's risk factor means he has to be incredibly talented to be BPA.
  8. The last play on the BA link is amazing. That's MLB range *and* finishing the play at the end of his range.
  9. I'm saying, as noted above, that he's a human being and that emotions drive decisions.
  10. It feels like we're once again failing to take advantage of a market inefficiency. The league is massively overvaluing prospects and picks. This would be a great time to take advantage of that.
  11. The only good part is that it's just one non-Reds beat reporter saying it.
  12. He was a 3.7 fWAR pitcher last year and was set to hit free agency at 28. I really had my eye on him because of the age.
  13. Are you implying because he grew up a Sox fan that loss ate at him on a whole different level? Yes. I'm absolutely implying and stating that I think he treats the Cubs differently than he did the Sox both because of rooting interests and because of the difference between a first job and a second job.
  14. I'll withdraw and amend to "age-appropriate." He'll be 22 all year in AA.
  15. Yeah, I didn't mean to imply that Soler should be treated like every other guy who finished last year in A+ and might start at AA this year. Given his status as an top-50 prospect with a big contract, a bit on the old side and alread on the 40-man, I'm willing to up to 5%. If he were some random dude, I'd go a lot lower.
  16. Fangraphs' playoff odds believes there is a 41.6% chance that either the Cardinals or the Dodgers win the pennant.
  17. At this time last year, it was a lock that we were choosing between whoever dropped between Appel and Manaea.
  18. Depends on who you ask. I've seen everything from "future 3b or CF" to "future GG SS"
  19. I demand someone do the 'sunglasses drop, deal with it' thing on that Theo pic, despite his already wearing sunglasses. http://i.imgur.com/C1pwhem.gif
  20. Guys have fourth arbitration years all the time.
  21. You're gonna love it in three months when we switch to "is it too early to root for the Cubs to lose?" arguments.
