  1. That's understood, but I don't see why you're not willing to even entertain the hypothetical that a draft can set up where it makes more sense to take the pitcher. I'm not going to say it can't happen, but I will say it'd be pretty rare. Not just "a bit of a down year for college bats and a good year for pitchers."
  2. Not until we have 8 elite young position players in the lineup. And probably not even then.
  3. Why? Because of some pundit rankings? Because the reality is that the college bats, in comparison to most years, suck. And the reality is that no matter how exciting the pitchers look right now, taking them adds 25% to your bust rate.
  4. Edit: I misread the Gameday report. He left the game after being thrown out.
  5. I finally understand what it was like to be a Bulls fan in the 1990s. Or at least close.
  6. Szczur's prospect ranking was kind of a crazy BA outlier.
  7. C.C. Sabathia topping out at 88. He'll get a bit more velocity as spring goes on, likely, but that's still got to be concerning for the Yankees.
  8. Unless someone Manaea's, it seems like right now it's not going to be a huge dropoff from 3 to 4 no matter what.
  9. Yes...back or something like that. Shoulder. They said it should be fine but just being cautious.
  10. *knocks on all the wood* Still feels like health is on the Cubs' side so far this spring. All we've got is little nicks on Arrieta and Olt. They're starting to pile up elsewhere. Sano's elbow is acting up again and they are talking surgery, which might move him off 3b forever.
  11. Muskat is pretty awful in general at everything.
  12. that was a bomb, just to the left of the 420 sign. looking forward to seeing a lot of that. Cleared the 420 easily, and it was just so easy. He didn't swing from the heels and he didn't pull it much. He just made solid contact up the middle and it went 430 feet.
  13. It's a good reminder that every dork who can afford to put up a website doesn't necessarily have an opinion worth listening to.
  14. Arizona radio guys think Szczur is pronounced "sooker"
  15. Castro swings at the first two pitches he sees. At this point, I consider that a good thing. Just hack away, Starlin.
  16. Grienke just left his start with an injury. Announcer was speculating knee or groin.
  17. With no setback, I don't see any reason why he can't be back fairly quickly. I notice he's still not on the 60-day DL.
  18. If you are *really* overweight and you do it under supervision of a doctor, it's probably OK. Otherwise, it's not great.
  19. Arrieta is still not throwing off a mound, which I have to think means April 5 (I doubt we'll be skipping the 5th spot in April) is probably gone.
  20. We're going to be hearing a whole lot of "Wrigley Field at Corporate Plaza," I imagine. And cool for them. We need enough revenue to paper over Ricketts' incompetence and Epstein's indifference.
  21. The internet just gets better every year.
  22. AZ Phil's report, complete with box score http://www.thecubreporter.com/02262014/cubs-ding-long-dongers-christen-cubs-park-mesa-0#more :clapping:
  23. It's a long fringe.
  24. I am concerned that Vitters isn't starting for either team.
