  1. He's a hitter. They only need like a week to get their timing down. The rest is just to sell tickets and give the pitchers someone to warm up on.
  2. So in this spring: Olt showed enough to be the starting 3b with some reason to hope on him The only significant regular-season playing time lost to injury is a few starts of Arrieta. That's a darn good spring.
  3. Your new depths fuel me to new heights? Yeah, that works.
  4. Your hate fuels me to greater heights.
  5. Olt optimism I can see. But Kalish? He's hoping for a "isn't it cool how this guy made the roster and wasn't a terrible bench player after all he's been through" type of comeback, not "oh man, now he's finally ready to be the star he was always destined to be." He made a brief appearance or two on the very back of some top-100s, but that was it.
  6. R/G is 8.3 and trending downward. You better get used to i.
  7. Why would that make you nervous, exactly? I meant because he *only* pitched that, then Rusin came in. I was thinking that for the last start of the spring, he might throw more, so leaving after three innings makes me wonder if he's hurt.
  8. Not bothering to create a thread for today's game, but should I be nervous that Samardzija pitched three innings and faced 12 batters?
  9. Well go over the the Donnie Murphy thread because Kyle just said he might be less productive than a full season of Barney at 2B I have a lot of doubts about Castillo. We're talking about a guy who was never that highly rated as a prospect who suddenly bursts out with a 3.2 fWAR season fueled by a .347 BABIP and a +15 run UZR.
  10. Now I hope he also becomes the manager after he retires.
  11. It's perfectly possible for the Cubs to construct the team in the upcoming years in such a way that they are both wildly successful and that Barney remains their best option for starting in the middle infield.
  12. Sounds like that would be a nightmare for Kyle. Nah. I don't think he's that good either. I just think it'd be funny to spite the ridiculous people who think he's worse than Donnie Murphy because they arbitrarily decided that peripherals don't count anymore.
  13. Yeah, that's far from true and 2B might even have a chance at being the worst position this year (phrasing it this way because of OF platoons) if Barney were to start all year. Thankfully, he almost assuredly won't. I'll bet on at least two outfield spots and catcher being worse than 2b.
  14. Five years, team captain, bats leadoff, and gets a few clutch hits so that every casual person who finds out you are a Cubs fan gives you three minutes on why he's a better player than Javier Baez.
  15. Now I hope he bats leadoff. You wanna press for more?
  16. according to BP, for the last two seasons: Kottaras is -44 extra strikes (4700 framing chances), and Baker is +4 extra strikes (3900 chances), which amounts to about a 5-6 run total difference The math checks out. Carry on, Theo.
  17. Because he's not *that* bad of a player, but people act like he is. They've got Barney Derangement Syndrome. The day Darwin Barney is the worst overall player in our starting lineup, we'll be a good baseball team.
  18. I hope Barney starts here for three more years just to troll everyone who moans about him constantly. I hope we trade Castro for some awesome pitching and Barney never leaves our infield.
  19. Our new backup catcher has not had an OPS above .590 or hit a home run since 2009. He'd better be magical at framing pitches or something.
  20. Do we no longer have a vomit smiley? I'm looking for it and not seeing it.
  21. The catcher thing is weird. They must just think there's a huge defensive difference between Kottraras and Baker.
  22. It'd be pretty funny if we did trade Kottaras. Epstein, fearing that perhaps he did too much this offseason, decides to scale it back a notch.
