I only want to keep him if it's in concert with a serious offseason attempt to compete in 2015. I don't think he wants to stay, though, and I don't think the Cubs want to keep him. I'd put the odds at under 10%.
Being a lefty-masher bench outfielder is like musical chairs. There's a need for them, but there's more guys who can do it than there are jobs, too. He's a worthy big leaguer, but it wouldn't be hard to envision him jobless.
Bonny playing like he wants to be part of the "core". Dude, get out of town while you can. I'm irrationally convinced that Epstein and Hoyer packed the team with guys in jobs a step above their abilities just to make sure there's no revolt about how bad the team is. Bonifacio's not going to complain because he's getting 500 PAs when he'd be lucky to get 200 anywhere else. Veras gets to rack up saves. Ruggiano's just happy to be in the bigs.
Castillo sucks, Castro sucks, Olt sucks, our entire outfield sucks, Barney sucks at hitting, Lake sucks but continues his magical ability to get good results despite his sucking, and Rizzo is kinda average.
Samardzija's pitch count is going to be a problem. I don't think he's getting into the 7th if he doesn't get better. Edit: DP on the next pitch after I posted probably helps.
Levine puts a hatchet in Ricketts' back: http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story/_/id/10730513/chicago-cubs-next-step-best-not-ask-owner-tom-ricketts?ex_cid=espnapi_public
They've faced some roadblocks but they also haven't been as good as they think they are and have made a lot of mistakes. I have a feeling I know which part they'll focus on if things continue to go south.
