  1. Tampa Bay has one insanely good scorer (Stamkos) and a really hot scoring line. They don't really have much in the way of defensive forwards. On defense they don't have any Keith-level guys, but they are comfortable with all 6 of their guys. They are fast and have playmakers, a type of team that the Hawks have sometimes had trouble with (and sometimes not).
  2. I like the 15-4 in playoff series stat.
  3. I don't take Tampa Bay lightly at all. They aren't the best team we've seen in the Finals, but they are a different type of matchup and not one we've always excelled in.
  4. 3 teams left, and one of them is the Blackhawks, for the fifth time in seven years. By contrast, the Cubs have not been one of the last 3 standing since 1984. Win or lose tonight (and I would strongly prefer win), it's been another great year for a great team.
  5. I say he goes 3-4 in the sense that he for once tries to go the other way and grounds into a first to second fielder's choice.
  6. It sure is going to be lame being behind the Pirates in the standings.
  7. Now I'm all nostalgic watching highlights of not-pointless Sharp.
  8. People who believe that Olt being hurt is a negative are weird.
  9. Run differential Cardinals +59 Pirates +35 Cubs +1 Let's worry about clinging to our lead over the Pirates and getting back ahead of one of the other 2nd-place teams before we worry about the team 5.5 games with a +58 edge in differential.
  10. We could be 2.5 up on the Cards right now and they'd still be favored to win the division. The gap between them and us is not small.
  11. Now you've lost in regulation, jerks.
  12. Just one of the best feelings in hockey. Your team is up 1, the other team is selling out to sustain pressure, and you make 'em pay on the counter.
  13. 13-0 on faceoffs is pretty sick.
  14. Wait what? I don't feel like doing a piece by piece breakdown so I could be wrong but I remember watching Ladd and Byfuglien then watching Stalberg and John Scott try to replace them. Guys like Pirri, Skille, Frolik, Campoli and Morin would have had no place on a blackhawks line in 2010. The 2011 team was better...after losing Campbell and Brower they started to get the pieces of the next Cup team on board like Leddy, Oduya, Saad, Shaw, etc The only real loss was Ladd. Byfuglien was a giant potato who got some pucks bounced off him in a playoff run. The 09-10 team featured regular playing time to such luminaries as Ben Eager, Brent Sopel, Tomas Kopecky, Jordan Hendry, Adam Burish. I'm debating whether I want to include Brouwer on that list.
  15. I don't think that's true. If you get pitchers at random and I get to pick the ones with the most wins, I'm getting on average better pitchers. It has some correlation with quality.
  16. Eh, I don't expect them to win the series. I don't know if that counts as gloom and doom or not. It's just the simple probability of needing to go 2-0. But I'm not particularly sad about it. They're an awesome team, they won *at least* 10 playoff games, and there are fans of 26 teams with nothing going on right now. If they lose, I'll go watch my Cup DVD. Or my other Cup DVD. We have two to choose from. I expect them to be Cup contenders right back again the next two years. They might go out in the first round or they might win it all. I'm not particularly convinced the 2011 or '12 teams were any worse than the 2010 team. The 2012-13 team was pretty darn special, but that was the confluence of Saad on the way up and Hossa and Sharp still nearly at the top of their games.
  17. That seems pretty darn do-able to me.
  18. People say there's going to be a crunch every year, but these people are the weirdos who care deeply whether Josh Vitters or Alberto Cabrera make the team. It'll be fine.
  19. That is weird. Shouldn't it be scorer's discretion, and shouldn't the scorer think that the runner is scoring from first with two outs every time?
