  1. I can enjoy Stearns' Vaunted Defending Champion Brewers ruining these turds, except for Braun. I hope he breaks his leg on this home run trot.
  2. That at-bat from Yelich was legitimately sexy.
  3. David Stearns just signed an extension a few months ago. So? We just have to promote him to Super President of Baseball Operations and we can steal him from under contract.
  4. Not drafting pitchers is awesome. I just remember a couple of years ago saying "they probably won't keep hitting on all their rotation bets" and being told "He hit on them all the last two years, why wouldn't that last forever?"* * - not actually how the conversation went but idc, it's my memory and i can reframe it how i want
  5. Could we grab the top spot today? http://www.tankathon.com/mlb
  6. I was thinking more of our Mark Prior but hoping not. Speaking of Bryant and Prior, lol Mark Appel's career. Never trust a pitcher. We'll never know if the reports that the Cubs draft board was Appel first then Bryant were true or not, but damn we are lucky if they were.
  7. Three more, including this one. After 2021.
  8. Yu Darvish at 8.10 has the best ERA of any of the four Cubs pitchers to appear so far
  9. That opening day game thread is full of so much unbridled enthusiasm. I'm still pretty sure any game thread posted on March 28 is spring training.
  10. They might eventually, but not this season. He'll get a new manager and an offseason to "retool" before his seat even gets a little warm. He might run out of town on his own, though.
  11. They should hire Jim Hendry to be in charge of drafting and developing pitching. He was way better at it than they are.
  12. Each new season deserves its own negativity thread, and this one doubly so. Theo Epstein was never building for sustained success. He was building a small-market Golden Generation plan with some bad pitching acquisitions tacked on to max out the payroll. Three years of tanking, four years of good, now we're back to mediocre again. Happening to win the WS in one of those 4 playoff appearances (two of which needed the WC game) was luck. The farm system can't produce pitching, Kris Bryant's shoulder hurts, and Addison Russell abuses women. The Cubs are owned by part of the elite corporate structure propping up the fascist uprising in this country.
  13. All of them involve the front office actually trading something of value rather than clinging to all their MLB graduates, so no, nothing realistic. so basically a willson trade, since nobody else makes sense. unless you can find a team who still believes bryant is a superstar. It's not selling low if their value can still get lower.
  14. All of them involve the front office actually trading something of value rather than clinging to all their MLB graduates, so no, nothing realistic.
  15. Going 1-5 doesn't change a lot about the projection of the overall quality of the team. But since you should have gone about 3.5-2.5 in those games, it knocks a full 2.5 wins off your projected total. And spotting the Brewers 4.5 games in the standings is a ton.
  16. Primes end super early, pitchers can't be trusted.
  17. 0-for-10 with 6 Ks since you posted this. Apologize.
  18. He was absolute ass before that too. Remember, we tanked all those years so that we could have "sustained success."
  19. What in the horsefeathering world. Yeah. Why would he want to keep Schwarber?
  20. It's too early to get my heart set on a full-blown fun-bad meltdown, but this is a good start.
  21. Is this the happiest you’ve been since 2012 or so? I’m gonna revel in it for another month before I have to switch to overly positive to stay contrarian
  22. Sustained success! Nah though. Pitching is still weird and maybe next year our pitchers will be good.
  23. Last place Cubs Fangraphs playoff odds update: 60% chance the Cubs do not win the division 46% chance they don't make the playoffs at all Projected for 11th-best win total in MLB
  24. Theo said there could be major changes if the players didn’t perform to expectations right? Obviously super early to even begin to consider it but horsefeathers it I’m bored, whose hitting the road? this is ian happ's fault obviously I blame Jim Hendry. Theo hasn't had a chance to put his full image on the roster while dealing with Javy and Contreras being on the roster as leftovers.
