  1. No you cannot win in the modern NFL with run-run-crap3rdandlong.
  2. Now just do that again every day for a month.
  3. I'm rooting for a multi-way tie for the last WC spot. Imagine we let the Mets and Phillies back into it too and we can have a four-way play-in just to get to the play-in.
  4. Trading a surplus outfielder for a badass closer is what teams in contention windows do. It sucks that Soler went on to hit 40 HRs, but as has already been pointed out in this thread, that basically makes him a slightly better Schwarber. Put another way, it'd be super damn cool if we'd traded, like, Happ or whatever young guy you like for a badass closer rather than give a bunch of money to Morrow and Kimbrel right before they broke. Yeah that's what I said.
  5. Remember, everything that worked out is good on its face, and everything bad made sense at the time so how can you criticize them now?
  6. If we're lucky, that's just Nagy projecting his descent into madness onto Mitch.
  7. Prediction: Cubs squeeze out the Brewers, win the wild-card game on the road, get dumped 3-1 in the LDS. This is *just* good enough to justify an offseason where we blame everything on Maddon and make no significant roster changes.
  8. Nah, the greater point is just revelling in manufactured misery.
  9. I can pick endpoints to help me, too. The Dodgers have won 26 more games than the Cubs the last three seasons. We haven’t been on their level since 2016
  10. That’s probably true. Which you should account for when building your team around an elite pass rusher. It’s part of his career and always will be
  11. why stop there? Surely you can slice it down a little further to squeeze more of an advantage out for the Cubs The Cubs having a relatively poor season this year and being poorly run more recently than the Dodgers doesn't make the fact they were a half step better over a very long time horizon. Defining 'long term' in a conversation with you is likely to be the 8th circle of hell but 4 consecutive years qualifies to me given that I've long thought that any roster planning beyond 2-3 years is basically absurd. You can spin this however you want, but if you get to set the starting point *and* still have to cut out some of the data, you know you’re stretching

  13. I'm old enough to remember when we collectively agreed that playoff results were a crapshoot and sustained success is what matters.
  14. So? Is there some hypothetical alternate world NFL where they call all the holdings that we can shift into? If not, what does it matter? He produces what he produces. sooo there are holds that happen routinely that are like speeding 5 mph over and then there's what was in that clip. that play slipping through should not be an accepted thing and pointing out that the refs fail on things like that is something that should be done. OK, so this is a one-time rare call that needs to be complained about? Because a minute ago the complaint was "doesn't change the fact that khalil mack gets shafted on holding calls with regularity"
  15. Dodgers clinch 7th straight NL West title. Remember when we thought we were on their level long-term?
  16. So? Is there some hypothetical alternate world NFL where they call all the holdings that we can shift into? If not, what does it matter? He produces what he produces.
  17. boohoo the refs is never a good look
  18. please gtfo I’ll disappear if they start winning, as per usual
  19. Kyle and Sofa, Sofa and Kyle - one and the same? We are both stealing the “doink broke Nagy” bit from deadspin
  20. I’m not expecting 5-11 or anything. I think a season like last is pretty likely. But you aren’t winning a Super Bowl with this push if “fine” is the best you can do this year. This is the year we were building toward. You get one more, weaker try next year, then it’s time for yet another retool :(
  21. Until 24 hours ago I would have 100% believed Nico Hoerner was one of the names on that 'Japanese video game tries to make American-sounding names' image.
  22. Geez 1 game and we're already convincing ourselves the Bears aren't going to be good this year? Don't get me wrong, last week was very discouraging but I'm not ready to give up on the team yet. I have a lot of faith in them to be a first-game playoff loser. Which is technically "good."
  23. The last time the Bears were at Denver was when they got Tebowed, right? This team only deserves cursed videos like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vmw7j6EN0x0
  24. Somebody loan Theo a gorilla suit. So Jed can wear it or Theo? I’m open to either. I'm still not convinced Jed actually does anything or has anything to do with anything, so Theo.
