  1. Yep, I enjoyed his stuff. Godspeed.
  2. Clifton starts his traditional late season run tonight- book it...
  3. I'm lovin' this guy. He's on another one of those runs of not walking guys- 1BB in his last 22IP, not to mention only 9H. In his 10K game, he hit 97 mph and was at 94/95 mph all night. Great control with a + fastball... Giddy-up!
  4. Maples with a little intro to AAA... It's nice he's resurrected himself this year, but his control has to improve a lot to get out of the minors. Mekkes keeps on destroying A ball, I want to see him in AA as soon a possible... Last October that guy from The Baseball Draft Report said Mekkes could be pitching the show in 2017. If the Cubs were a little more aggressive with Mekke's promotions, I think that guy would have been right.
  5. Trade him for Gray! The Cubs #1 prospect is a SW 3B rotting in AAA, so the Cubs got this covered.
  6. Ah, why not... He can still pitch 2 out of 3 in Atl before the off day on Thursday. And, as it turned, it was a clean no stress inning.
  7. Nor will he have the ability to sign two years worth of big time IFAs in one year with the new CBA. And, we wont be sellers at the deadline.
  8. I can't really wrap my mind around a "top list" right now. I'm kinda having a moment of reflection. Theo came in, built the stem from the ground up, and got to where we're at now. Simply, and I don't overuse this adverb, Theo did a great job! =D> On 7/3/17, that dynamic has changed. After years of graduation and three trades in the past year for pitching, the farm system is depleted. It is, what it is. On to rebuilding the system, again... It's gonna be fun! Now, after two drafts dominated by pitching, the system is stronger with potential pitching than position players. Also, I have a feeling Theo isn't done raiding the system. So, I'm thinkin' the remains of the system will be whittled down a little bit more. Theo isn't gonna have top 5 and top 10 picks to rebuild the system this time. The process will be more challenging. Lets enjoy the ride!
  9. Hey now... That's the Cubs' #4 prospect- no disrespectful emoji! Really, it wasn't too bad. The wheels fell off in 2nd, but he rebounded to finish with three strong innings.
  10. What's sad is I was just happy he didn't walk anyone. Guess I prefer walks to the "meatball down the middle" approach that he took today evidently. I'm there with ya... When I saw the high Ks and no BBs, from a prospect view point, I was kinda thinking it really wasn't all that bad of a start. But, bad is bad... I couldn't spin away all those hits and runs.
  11. Another bad game for Clifton... :(
  12. The Cubs have noticed him this year. I forget who, but someone involved with the Cubs minor league system had good things to say about him. In that article, it said Maples hit 100 mph this year... I knew he could hit the high 90's, but not triple digits.
  13. Great post... Thanks for the breakdown.
  14. I just noticed there's been some movement with the Cubs' official top 30. Happ graduated, some guys up a little or down a little... I don't remember Alzolay on the list before, he's on it now at #21. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=chc
  15. Yeah, there's that, but I'm thinkin' something has improved, too. He's fully healthy, so maybe he's just pitch to his ability... :-k
  16. Anyone know why Maples is so good this year? We know his K's are way up- why?... Has he learned a killer 2-seamer, 4-seamer is up to 96mph or something else? Thanks...
  17. :banghead: Fun couple days in Cubville...
  18. For people watching the CWS, Gators gotta win. If LSU wins, and there's a winner take all game three on Wednesday, Lang will start for LSU and could throw 130+ pitches.
  19. Anderson going for Tennessee, that's interesting.
  20. Yeah, I may be being a bit tough on him. But, I was expecting him to grow into a consensus top 100 type and his walks are up quite a bit from last year. K's are down some too. He's definitely not gained value from where he was at the end of last year. He's shown some pitchability to minimize damage this season but his year has been very disappointing so far. davell, fair enough. He was doing OK until last night, but he hasn't progressed. He's definitely been passed by Hatch in the system, maybe a couple other guys have passed him, too. The second half of the season will be important for him. Last year he turned it up the 10-12 starts, that's when he established himself as a top 10 prospect in the system.
  21. Faedo should've been a top ten pick. Teams passing on him 8-17 due to minor knee surgeries was silly. Yeah, in some mocks I saw him as high as #4 to the Rays. Then, he dropped to the teens. For the CWS, we need a 2-0 sweep... If it goes to game 3, I see Lang starting with a pitch count as high as 140... Go Gators!
  22. I like Lang, but the difference between him and Faedo (pick #18 by the Tigers) is obvious. Faedo could probably be the Cubs 5th starter right now. OK, back to the Cubs...
