  1. Giles..! I've never had any reason to suspect him.
  2. All the way from Dubuque though? I'd have kicked them out by Freeport. Kick out da strippers! NEVER!
  3. The MiFi is portable, but inside the portable antenae is useless, so unless you have the means to hook it up to a base with a proper antenae situated near a window, I wouldn't reccomend it. But, the MiFi does come with earphones that can be plugged in directly. It also can be utilized through it's FM transmitter. So, while the MiFi would be idea if you wanted something portable, unless your class is outdoors or you could set up the base and indoor antenae in class, it would be useless for listening to Cubs games in class. Or, if you are inside bit near a window exposed to the south/southwest, it will work. My MiFi works indoors without the antenna in certain areas. Thanks. I may try it. I love my MyFi....and I tried to get it to work at the gym with no avail.

  5. You should have brought along strippers. Strippers on a rooftop during a Cubs game would be a thing of beauty!
  6. The Hardball Times has an interesting read on constructing line-ups. Link. Here's what he had to say: That's really interesting. He uses the A's as his example, but if I take PECOTA's projections for the likely Cubs starting nine and simply use OPS to rank the hitters 1-9, the players rank in this order: Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Jones, Walker, Murton, Pierre, and Cedeno. Following that formula, Lee, Ramirez and Barrett should occupy the #1, #2, and #4 spot in the line-up. Jones and Walker should be in the #3 and #5 positions and then 6-9 would be Murton, Pierre, Cedeno, and the pitcher respectively. Basically, if following this premise, the Cubs line-up would be : 1. Lee 2. Ramirez 3. Walker 4. Barrett 5. Jones 6. Murton 7. Pierre 8. Cedeno 9. Pitcher Interesting concept and nothing like anything we've ever seen.
  7. Link. I guess the city isn't ready to give up just yet.
  8. I'd much rather Clemens go to Texas, NY, or Boston and not pitch in the NL. But everything I read and hear seems to indicate he'll be back in Houston. No team can offer him the amenities that Houston can. Considering he has twice pitched to Houston minor leaguers, my guess is that his ties with that organization will keep him there. Also, he could return for the Astros in June and be more rested.
  9. I'm just curious. Have any of you ever watched from one of the rooftops? Share experiences here. One day, that is something I would like to do.
  10. Link. You have to like this kid's attitude.
  11. I guess it could happen, but I'd suspect he returns to Houston.
  12. Link. Another suspected steroid user bites the dust.
  13. And you've hit the nail on the head. I don't believe our offseason moves have made up the margin, but I do believe that if our pitching is healthy (and yes, I know...big if) we have closed the gap. Check out Gammons' blog. Link Effectiveness is important, but health seems to be critical. Now, Gammons does mention the Cubs. If the Cubs can get 150 starts out of Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Maddux, and Miller then I think they have closed the gap, especially considering some of the downgrades I see on the Cardinals. On the other hand, if that fivesome only accounts for 120 starts, the gap could be as wide as ever unless the Cardinal staff also suffers some injuries. Consistent, healthy starting pitching will be the key in the NL Central. Not just for the Cubs, but for the Astros and Cardinals too.
  14. I think it's clear that you should buy a scalped ticket for the Venezuela vs DR game.
  15. Fearless prediction: Player of the Game --->Michael Restovich.
  16. I'd like to see Jenks light Guillen on fire myself.
  17. For the Saturday 4/22 game, I just picked up two seats off ebay that are in the Ozzie Smith Legends Party Suite. Anyone wonder if the Card fans there will mind having a Cub fan in the suite? :D
  18. An article in today's trib indicates that when Team USA is having an off day during the tourney, Baker would like to have Barrett and Lee back with the Cubs considering they will be in nearby Phoenix. Link.
  19. You mean to tell me ULM hasn't won a game. That's pathetic. I went to the Dixie Majors World Series in Monroe last year to see my cousin pitch the final game. There were a few players on the team that were committed to ULM, and I didn't really think they were that impressive. I guess that explains their winless record. ULM had a decent team last year, but they graduated a number of seniors from that team. (One, Matt Green, was drafted in the suplemental first round by the D'backs last June.) Hopefully, they'll rebound, but it's not likely this year.
  20. Link There's some speculation he could make it to the big leagues this year.
  21. The MyFi is awesome. It's a little pricey, but being able to have a portable unit is great!
  22. Dirks and Olvey have been amazing so far on the mound, a couple more good Seniors on that squad, Harris is huge and Sprowl, while he might be a late draftee or FA signee b/c of his size, he's a perfect team player. I'm hoping that this LSU team will surprise some folks and earn a trip to Omaha.
