  1. Title should read "Rey R'nez" There is no "O" or "D" with him!
  2. I have a feeling they will low ball in negotiations with Boras.
  3. Drew is the choice in overwhelming fashion! I should have predicted it. I also think it's interesting that as many people would chose Bonds as the overrated Carlos Lee.
  4. Looking at DeRosa's numbers, he really hasn't been that good except for last season. I wish he weren't promised the starter's job. I wonder if Lou will stick with him when he struggles, or if he'd go to Theriot. I don't like that Hendry is talking as if shortstop is set with Izturis. Hopefully, that's just GM-speak.
  5. Just to show my support, I sponsored DeRosa's page on http://www.baseballreference.com. I think you will like what I had to say when it is posted.
  6. Well that means we can only sign 2 more A-B type players.
  7. I'm not mad we have Derosa. He is actually a versatile player that has value being versatile. I am disapointed to hear he was signed as a starter, unless that is to start at SS. There were better options for second. If we get Soriano or Drew, then the offense will be fine with him or without him. This signing does make me think we will really push to sign Soriano to be our lead-off hitter. BTW, someone please tell me Derosa was not a type A-B FA.
  8. I don't have time to read all 21 pages.... so forgive me if I cover already covered territory. First of all, this is too much to pay for DeRosa. I don't mind him as an option for the bench. I don't like him for a starter. If we unloaded Izturis, I'd like this move a little more. Right now, we're wasting nearly 10 million on Izturis and Derosa. That's not good. If Derosa is going to start, I'd rather it be at SS and not second.
  9. Just because a team says a player isn't on the market doesn't mean it's so. Cashman has said Arod isn't on the market, but people keep bringing him up.
  10. Apparently, the Cubs have another Cleveland pitcher in mind in return for relievers: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Anyone else hear the Bruce Levine report? Considering chances are slim to none that we land Schmidt or Zito, Hendry is likley kicking the tires on any 3-4 starter that might be available in a trade.
  11. He may be a better value though. If the Cubs had no holes to fill, upgrading Murton to Lee might be an decent idea. On the other hand, the Cubs do have a hole at CF. The wise thing would be to find a bat for CF and let Murton produce at LF.
  12. Link He deals with Dunn, Teixeira, V. Wells, A. Jones, and C. Crawford. It appears with any of these, the price could be steep. Here's what he has to say about Dunn. and then... About Wells, he says this. On Andruw Jones, and finally about Crawford...
  13. As I see it, we have Zambrano and Hill as near locks for the rotation. Miller is there, but we don't know what he will provide. Prior is the same way. Prior could be an ace, but he could not contribute at all. With those four, three spots could be filled and maybe four depending on the healthy of Prior and Miller. If we sign one pitcher, then four sports are filled and maybe five. With the host of kids led by Marshall and followed by Marmol, Mateo, Guzman, and Ryu I really think the Cubs will be ok. While it would be nice to add two pitchers, at the prices they are getting, I'd almost prefer to spend the money adding one more bat.
  14. I wonder what Dodger Town will be like without the Dodgers? Link.
  15. Furthermore, in his age 23 season Wade Miller only posted a 96 ERA+ before having two phenomenal years. I can see Marshall having a path similar to someone like Maroth or Odalis Perez. He could be bad, but then he also could make a few adjustments, stay healthy, and give an ERA+ between 90-110 which would make him an acceptable fifth starter. The Cubs do need to add one more pitcher. Two would be nice, but I think with the addition of one solid to very good pitcher, the Cubs could be ok.
  16. I truly hope that Hendry is not counting on any of the above named pitchers to start the season in the rotation. Last year they all proved that they weren't ready quite yet. I think there could be hope for Marshall. Last season he had an 83 ERA+ as he posted a 5.59 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP. In Bonderman's first season, he had a 77 ERA+ as he posted a 5.56 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP. Now, Bonderman was three years younger than Marshall at the time. It also took Bonerman a few seasons to reach the level he is at now. But if one simply looked at his early numbers, they may have written him off as well. Marshall might be a decent candidate for a fifth spot in the rotation if we have some depth around him.
  17. I think Marshall has the inside track. Then it's a toss up between Mateo, Marmol, and Guzman. Gallagher likely is a year away.
  18. Soriano is likely to sign before Drew. Boras loves to drag things out as he plays teams against each other. I think a likely scenario could be the Cubs and Angels driving up the bidding for Soriano. When the Cubs bow out there, Drew will very likely still be on the market. Hopefully at that point, the Cubs will make him their prime target.
  19. There are two circumstances than lead to Pie being included. 1. The Rockies are looking for a CF. If they trade Jennings, they will be looking to fill that need. 2. If Drew or Soriano is signed to play CF, then Pie is blocked for the next few years. He could be moved to RF when Jones departs, but his value is as a CF. If a CF were in the fold that effectively blocks Pie, I'd look to move him. If we sign a stop gap CF like Roberts or Lofton, then Pie's value is higher.
  20. He may not be over-rated, but he surely can be over priced.
  21. If the Cubs signed Drew or Soriano to long-term deals for CF, Pie becomes expendable. Send the Rockies a package of Pie + one of Marmol, Mateo, Ryu + Novoa.
  22. Someone picked other and didn't specify. I just would like to know what "other" FA hitter someone would prefer.
  23. Boras wants a seven year deal for Zito. Also, check out the price tag. Link. Pass.
  24. Cant Patterson play defense well enough?
