  1. Link. Other notes from the article. 1. Pie likely not to make the team out of ST. (No surprise here.) 2. When listing OF likely to play, there's no mention of Pagan. 3. Soriano feels comfortable in CF thus far.
  2. The Phillies are in Clearwater, the Devil Rays in St. Petersburg, and the Yankees right there in Tampa. I think the Blue Jays are in Dunedin. The Tigers are in Lakeland which also isn't too far away. A little further, the Indians are in Winter Haven and the Pirates in Bradenton and Reds in Sarasota.
  3. His defense in the regular season better be better than that. I thought he was about to cast a spell.
  4. Bruce, thanks for being a level-headed voice amidst a media that wants to focus on things that are non-issues.

  6. Here's one of Smardzija. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20070221/capt.azmg21002212220.cubs_spring_baseball_azmg210.jpg
  7. Walker won his arbitration hearing vs the Padres that was held on Tuesday. Link. Walker will make 3.95 million. That's a lot of money considering he is only supposed to be a back-up for the Padres. I wonder if they will look to trading him. Another interesting fact is Walker was represented by his younger brother in the hearing.
  8. Yes, this is definitely the last round, we decided on 6 bench spots. Good. Then I've already decided on my final pick. It will be hard to make because two other players I want are still on the board.
  9. Some good quotes from Carlos on the whole process. Hendry also had a good quote on how the Cubs planned to proceed if it had gone to a hearing. Link.
  10. It seems that Todd Walker actually helped the Cubs get this deal done prior to the hearing. Link. Thanks, Todd.
  11. Wait until you see my final fun pick...:)
  12. I'm still predicting a deal along the lines of the Oswalt deal. Zambrano gets a 3 million signing bonus to go along with his 12.4 million salary for this year. In 2008: 13.6 million. 2009: 15 million 2010: 16.5 million 2011: 17.5 million There would be a 2012 team option for 19 million with a 2 million buyout making it a guaranteed 5/80 deal.
  13. If you're referring to the four seats in 214, yes they are all together. These are for the game on Tues 6/19.

  15. How long before the first fishing reference?
  16. I was thinking the same thing. The photographers are playing golf. Or Scott Eyre ate them.
  17. I always prefer a premature question from a Brewers fan over an immature question from a Cardinals or Astros fan.
  18. So is there confirmation this will be the last round, or will I need to make two picks when it's my turn?
  19. Good job on the deal here. My guess is this will be a precursor to giving Zambrano a deal that averages slightly more than Oswalt's five year deal. 5/76- 5/80 will probably be the deal we see before the season starts.
  20. Hendry made a comment during convention that I think may be relevant here. He said, "You just can't let a player right a number on a napkin and then give it to them." While he will work to get the player signed, sometimes you have to be willing to let things play themselves out. Hendry right now is operating from a point of strength. Zambrano is a Cub for 2007. The only question is will he be paid 11 million or 15.5 million. Had they been able to settle on a figure palatable to Hendry, he could have made somewhere in between. However that figure would have been the beginning point for an extension. These contracts always escalate. Winning the hearing is huge, because it means that Hendry gets Z for 11 million. Anything he adds to that in the extension would be bonus. It helps keep the cost of the extension from escalating too rapidly. If he loses, the base for the first year is 15.5.
  21. He can, but he also can distinguish between contracts signed on the FA market and those rewarded to 6th year arbitration players.
  22. But hasn't Soriano said he doesn't want to be bounced around anymore? I agree that what you just wrote would probably be best for the team right now. Hendry believes that Pie will be ok in right field. He has the arm for it. So, if Soriano doesn't want to move from CF to RF when Pie is ready, Pie plays RF. I personally believe that if Soriano sees that it's best for the team to move to RF for Pie, he'll do it. Either way, the line-up would look the same.
