  1. I like this one the best...though with Murton leading off and Soriano batting 5th. I'm also getting sick to death of Michael Barrett. I wish we had a catcher that could play defense and hit just a little bit. He costs us way too many games defensively and stumbling around the bases like a drunken sailor. At this point I'd just as soon Hll catch everyday. Z seems to like him. A catcher who could play his position well would be nice, but playing the AAA catcher over a guy who has consistently been a very strong hitting catcher over the last three years is ridiculous. Even at defensive positions like catcher, offense is more important than defense, and Barrett's bat is finally starting to pick up again. And just how many more games can we let Barrett cost us? His mistakes are far outweighing his bat. No, they are not. To quote Fred from another thread..
  2. got any numbers to support that ridiculous claim? didn't think so. honestly though, i would love to see you list all the instances where barrett's d cost the cubs a run. Well, using one formula for Runs Created, Barrett has generated 26.1 runs for us. I don't know what the "average catcher" would have generated, but taking Blanco's numbers and extrapolating them upward to equal Barrett's playing time, you come up with 11.5 RC. Doing the same with Koyie Hill you get 2.4 RC. On the other side of the coin, I can think of 3 or 4 instances where Barrett's defense or bone headed base running contributed to a CUBS loss. Some will undoubtedly argue that there are more. I can't imagine that there are enough runs given up by Barrett to negate the extra offense he brings, in spite of his current slump. Thank-you, Fred. That sums it up. Barrett may have cost the Cubs a run here or there, but I doubt he's cost anywhere near the 15 run difference between him and Blanco.
  3. Verlander is nothing; everyone knows Jeff Weaver and Suppan are better!
  4. I'm upset that I'm not going to see Green pitch. He pitches on Sunday and I'll already be in Texas by then. Green is a local boy from Monroe and pitched at the University of Louisiana Monroe.
  5. I failry certain he'll go in on first ballot. If he gets the 3000 hits, he'll be a lock. If he misses the 3000 hits, it might take an extra ballot, but with the 3000 he has the key to the door.
  6. Thanks. I'm also going to try to get an autograph from manager Brett Butler. (Former Cub Dave Hansen is the hitting coach.)
  7. Other than Justin Upton, Carlos Gonzalez, and Matt Green are there any other top prospects on that team?
  8. I'm going to miss this one. Hopefully, when I get back home the Cubs will have won.
  9. I'm in Monroe...working in Rayville now. Talk about tumbleweeds blowing by...jeeeesh. I can reccomend some nice places to eat. Yeah...on a Tuesday night not much to do here.
