  1. The good thing is that I'm not too worried about Murton+Gallagher for Byrd, because I don't recall Rogers ever calling a trade correctly. If Rogers has any sources, I don't think they've ever been right. What Rogers calls sources is likely the sounds his ass makes while farting.
  2. Making the decision on value alone, I'd say I'd rather have Murton than Byrd. However, Byrd may be of more value to the 2008 Cubs than Murton would be. Byrd would provide some insurance to Pie needing to sit against tough lefties. Murton does not. I'd prefer to offer a lesser player. Fuld for Byrd would work better for me. Kroeger for Byrd would make me ecstatic. If they want pitching, Petrick for Byrd would look better. I might have to start talking bad about Jim if he does Gallagher for Byrd, because that would be stupid in colossal fashion.
  3. Apparently, TR Sullivan in DFW is reporting that the Cubs are interested in Byrd. I perused the thread at http://www.newbergreport.com, and it appears the Ranger fans (mostly) would be thrilled to take Murton for Byrd straight up. There are some that would want a pitcher back, but others would be willing to include a prospect on their end to get the deal done. Here's a link to the thread for those who want to read and maybe join the discussion. A few of the responses so far... And then like a lot of our threads, the discussion takes a turn comparing Murton to Carlos Lee.... anyway, I like Murton a lot, but he's without a position on this team, so if the deal were Murton for Byrd, I'd probably do it. If we have to add anything, unless that anything is Dempster or Marquis, then probably not.
  4. Byrd isn't worth Gallagher alone, much less Gallagher and Murton. I'm really not sure I'd do Murton for Byrd, except for the fact that Murton is without a position on this team. They can have Fuld and Dempster if they like...
  5. I agree with that assessment. Selling the park separate from the team and signing a deal before selling the team would lock the team to the stadium for as long as the deal is for. But it could guarantee the team will try to leave as soon as the deal is completed since the team and its owners would have no stake in the park itself. I also think it could be shortsighted in that it could lower the price (value) of the team itself. The new owners would be purchasing the Cubs without the park. That's going to lower the asking price considerably. Furthermore, if the lease signed with the Illinois State Facilities Authority is not a favorable one, potential owners may lower their bid knowing their ability to make a profit will be hindered by an unfavorable lease or by demands of the Authority that controls their venue. I think the idea that it guarantees the Cubs stay playing at Clark & Addison is just spin to justify selling the two entities separately.
  6. Great report on the Convention, Mark. Glad you had a great time. I got most of my autos last year after sessions as well. I did wait in a few lines on Sunday, but the lines for those autographs were outrageous and the sessions are usually very informative.
  7. interesting, hendry must view shingo as a member of the 25 man roster. It was for ST if I remembered that quote correctly. It was. They think that Singo can help him get aclimated and also help familiarize him with Chicago.
  8. According to BCB, at one of the sessions Hendry confirmed that Shingo was signed to be a "Fukufriend."

  10. Meph when you finish your rankings with the other projection systems, care to send it to me in spreadsheet form?
  11. I would think if they got Figgins while not getting Roberts, you'd see DeRosa at 2B and Figgins in CF. That is, unless they trade DeRosa in a package for Burnett or something like that. I agree. I think if the Cubs got Figgins, he'd play CF and there's a strong chance that Pie could be dealt for pitching.
  12. This one was posted before the one in transactions. That will be the one that is locked.
  13. If we were getting Bedard and Roberts, you can bet Pie was part of the deal.
  14. Link. Of course, further down in the article it says Affeldt will compete for a rotation spot.
  15. Thats better than adding USC. I still think Michigan is going to pull out Pryor. I agree. I'm just happy to see LSU have a shot at him.
  16. Terrelle Pryor will be visiting LSU next weekend. Link.
  17. From rotoworld. At least now we can look forward to the two Hernandezes in the Astros rotation...
  18. agreed. The gray Cuba script is one of my favorites! I have a blue Cuba script jersey and would love to have a gray one.
  19. I also think that if the Cowboys keep both first rounders, they will look for a CB.
  20. I think there may be a flurry of trades of first round picks. I wouldn't be surprised to see Parcells trade out of the number one pick. If McFadden starts slipping, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cowboys (Jones covets him) try to package their two picks and move up to get him.
