Seattle is 9 1/2 games back with a whopping .375 winning percentage. My guess is they will start selling parts soon, and Ibanez is the type of player moved cheaply around the first weeks of July. He's not under contract so the Mariners will either trade him or take a draft pick. Most teams prefer a player to the draft pick, so we'll see. It's quite likely Murton would get the deal done. Murton gives the Mariners a player they control for a few more seasons that has had some success. Other players that could interest Seattle in a deal for Ibanez could be Wuertz, Petrick, Fox, or Patterson. Outside of Wuertz, I wouldn't cringe over giving up any one of those. Then again, they could want a low minors project. Outside a few of our top prospects, there's no one there that I wouldn't give up in a deal for Ibanez. If Raul is traded it's going to be a long the lines of what the Cubs received for Maddux (Izturis) or Walker (Ceda) when we traded those two. Ibanez is not the impact player which will cause a bidding war among other teams. He's nearing the end of his career, and he's an impending free agent. He also isn't known for great defense. The biggest issue with a deal like this is whether Fukudome would feel comfortable moving to CF and whether the Cubs feel they could live with Ibanez in RF. -

Count me on board for Fukudome to CF and Ibanez to RF. Ibanez has had a 350+ OBP for the past four years including this season. He usually hits 280 or better. He slugs around 480. He's not a superstar by any stretch of the imagination, but he's a solid bat. If Ibanez was in RF, Fukudome could bat second with Ibanez hitting behind Ramirez. -
The Astros announcers raved about his "stuff." His curve looked good and he was ok with the fastball. The pitch to Lee was a mistake. He shouldn't have thrown that ball anywhere near the plate, but he let a curve spin up there about belt high and Lee crushed it. The stuff was there, but he caught too much plate too many times.

Tell me Chris Young is still alive and then I'll exhibit relief and start making jokes about Pujols and balls and faces. It was pretty bad. Young is walking off on his own power. Lots of blood on his jersey. It was scary for a minute there.

Haven't we only won 1 road series this year? (Swept Pirates) Yes sir. So once we come back down to earth at Wrigley, we're in some deep crap. Or once we catch fire on the road we will really run away with things. You could look at it either way. This is the Cubs. Always expect the worst option, but hope for the best. It's less painful that way. My way is a much more enjoyable outlook on life, but take whichever suits you.

The back end of our rotation is mediocre. The rest of our pitching is stellar. We have a #1 pitcher.....and four #5's..........Dempster and Lilly are #3's at best, and this season Dempster is overachieving, while Lilly isn't looking so good....I don't trust EITHER in the playoffs. You even contradicted yourself with your own sentence. I may have worded it wrong.....on their best day Lilly and Dempster are #3's.....but in reality, our entire staff is comprised of #5 pitchers.....with the exception of Zambrano. Lilly is not a number five, his atrocious start to the season aside. If your number five is as good as Lilly, you likely have the best starting staff in baseball. Dempster is an enigma. I don't expect him to stay this good, but so far, he's been a perfect number two.

thats very optimistic I know. It could be a 43 game losing streak, but we'll snap out of the funk before it gets that bad.

I figure letting Gallagher take his lumps in the majors is more productive long-term than watching Marquis get smacked around every five days. I do as well. Gallagher has some decent stuff. He's just going to have to learn to use it better. He wasn't very efficient tonight and made two mistakes to hitters at times and in a park when he just couldn't make those mistakes. It wasn't a good start by any stretch, but I think he's shown enough to get another start.

The Astros announcers think Gallagher had good stuff. It was not a good start. He made some really bad pitches at times when he couldn't afford to. I could see swapping him out of the rotation for Marshall, but I still prefer Gallagher to Marquis.

We just had a 10-2 homestand. There's going to be an ebb and flow to the season. We will have slumps.
