  1. This could be the end of the home winning streak. Hudson looks to be on his game today.
  2. Maybe that tall colored man can get us a run in the next inning.
  3. It's 1940's United States, not 1880's England. A gay fellow then?
  4. i think in 1948, gay meant happy that's how I'm staying within board guidelines.
  5. I'm not sure I trust this next hitter. I hear he's a gay old chap.
  6. I can't post a screen shot because I didn't have a computer in 1948. But seriously, I don't know how to. Vance, I was in Field of Dreams (local memorabilia shop) last weekend, they had a Theriot autographed bat with the insciption "Geaux Cubs Geaux" That would be awesome!
  7. I like the vintage uniforms and could live with a couple innings of black and white and no graphics....but the camera angles are crap.

  9. I don't mind the black and white, but I hate the camera angles.
  10. DeRosa seen laughing at the National Anthem on xylophone.
  11. This team has a different feel to it. I'm glad to see the statistical measures back that up as well.
  12. Albeit at a minor league game, but I gave a ball to a kid tonight.
  13. I think Rich Hill would be the center piece. While the Indians have a good bit of pitching, I see Hill as a pitcher they would be interested in acquiring. After Hill, they will likely go after pieces in the lower levels that they believe will help them more than what they would get in compensatory picks.
  14. True. With the WC, teams will wait a little longer before deciding who or who not to deal. We'll have a better idea at the All-Star break, and even then it will be only a hazy picture.
  15. I'm so hoping Jericho Jones signs. He's local and I love that name.
  16. Teams are likely not ready to trade, so we'll have to use some combination of Murton/Hauffpair/Patterson to get us through in the meantime. I'd probably call Hauffpauir up now and then add Murton when we head to Toronto. If Soriano's injury lingers and the offense begins to suffer, here are some options we could consider: 1. Bonds. He only costs money and not players. On the other hand, he comes with lots of baggage and hasn't swung a bat since last season. He might be worth kicking the tires on, but it's a long shot. 2. Adam Dunn. By the All-Star break, the Reds should be out of it. Dunn is an impending FA, but I heard on XM yesterday that Dunn is a favorite of the Reds owner (sounds like an Angelos/Roberts thing), so he may not be moved. 3. Milton Bradley. Bradley is likely cheaper than Dunn. He also is on a one-year deal with the Rangers. The Rangers are hanging close, while not too close, in the AL West race. If they fall further back, Bradley could be available. I'm not sure if he could still play CF, but that possibility would give him somewhere to play when Soriano does return. 4. Raul Ibanez. Would probably come cheaply, he routinely puts up OBP over 350. Could become a bat off the bench when Soriano returns. 5. Brian Giles.
  17. Well, for those who want a report on the Smokies, here is an abridged version. Veal didn't look good at all. He walked the first hitter he faced, but picked him off by showing a nice move to first. In the second the wheels fell off. He made an error to let the first batter advance all the way to second. Then he struggled to find the plate, worked behind most of the night, and got hit pretty hard. When he left in the third, the bases were loaded and no body was out. Roquet came in and limited the damage. Veal's FB sat between 85-87mph, though I think the Braves have a slow gun. His curveball was good, but he didn't use it that much. Probably because he was always down 2-0 to most hitters. Colvin had a bad first AB, but did show some selectivity in his other AB's. He just didn't have much to show for it. Fox seemed to have the hardest luck of the Smokies. He had some very deep AB's where he fouled off a number of pitches, but he never could come away with anything. In one of his later AB, he hit a shot that went as high as it went far and ended up being caught on the warning track. Unfortunately, I really wasn't that impressed with any of the Smokies hitters. It could have been a bad night, but they were facing Parr. I've seen Parr pitch before and he's not impressive. He's not horrible, but he isn't a pitcher that should have shut a team down like he did for most of the game. I really felt sorry for Donnie because his grandmother was there to watch him pitch. I'm not going back tomorrow, but I do plan to be there Friday when Shark takes the hill. Don't expect much in the way of a report as Addison is going with daddy to that game.
  18. I'll try to have a report on Veal's outing, but that assumes I get to pay as close attention to the game as I will need to give an accurate report.
  19. Hauffpauir can't rejoin the team until Friday when his ten days are up.
  20. If Chipper is at third, I hope we drop some bunts that way to test the leg early on.
  21. With Fuentes about to be a FA, he may be a little cheaper than expected. I'd be ok with getting him, but I'd be cautious not to overpay.
  22. According to this, Kyle Wilson, who was selected in the 31st round, is not expected to sign.
