  1. Beltran at the right cost would be nice. I really don't like his contract, but if the Mets want to get rid of him, he would fill the whole in CF. On the other hand, offense isn't our biggest problem right now. Taking on an 18.5 million per contract to help something that isn't quite broken may not be the best allocation of resources. For me to get on board with a Beltran acquisition, it would probably need to be a deal in which the Cubs send good prospects but the Mets eat some of the contract, or it would need to be a deal in which the Cubs take on the contract but trade little to nothing of value. I doubt those options are appealing to the Mets.
  2. I hear you. There was absolutely no reason to make this move unless something else is going on. There's lots of reasons to make this move. In fact, my guess is it has nothing to do with showcasing Murton for a trade. Murton has over 800 major league at bats. My guess is that any GM who may or may not deal for him has seen whatever they need in those AB's.
  3. That's a good move. Nothing against Patterson, but Murton and Hauffpauir are a better fit.
  4. And to think MLB is worried about Cuban owning a team when there's a clown like this running baseball's most storied franchise.
  5. Lots of talk on BBTN about the Yankees going hard after Sabathia.
  6. I think they should do away with the DH in both leagues. But I will say this, Hank Steinbrenner is going to be pure comedy for the years to come. And if he keeps it up, even with all his resources, he could run that proud franchise right into the ground.
  7. Ponson has some major character issues, and he's no better than Marquis and Gallagher, so it's not a fit. I don't think we have anything to worry about.
  8. But wha...what about the moment of silence during the top of third?!?!?!?
  9. I bet that's really bothering the Cubs who want to hurry and get to Tampa. Any chance the regulars go ahead to Tampa and the minor leaguers play the whole game?
  10. Hendry knows when to hold 'em. Hopefully he'll learn to walk away or when to run. Does he count his money when he's sitting at the table? There will be time enough for counting when the dealing's done.
  11. More confirmation that Ryan Flaherty is expected to sign. Link.
  12. I need to crank up my voting again. I might have to add Edmonds to my ballot... :D
  13. The more I read through Kristian's blog about why the game should be saved, the more I laugh. He lists reasons that the game is beneficial to Cooperstown High School and the community of Cooperstown. While I can understand how such an event is a boon to that small community, why does MLB owe them something that hundreds of thousands of communities don't receive? He prints the letter from the person who claims the HOF game has created a way for him to cheaply take his son to a MLB game. He tries to make it sound like removing this game from Cooperstown would remove affordable options for people to take children to a game. Well, if that's the motivation, why not have all MLB teams have to play in substandard parks in small town America so that fans outside of major markets other than upstate New York could have these opportunities? It's sentimentality at its best and isn't a compelling reason. I feel sorry for Kristian. He and his community have obviously enjoyed this game. I'm sure if I lived within driving distance of Cooperstown, I too would hope to see the game saved and hate to see it leave. But, the fact of the matter is the game isn't viable anymore. Probably hasn't been for years, but things like this are hard to do away with.
  14. I think it would be funny if someone used to email lists on the savethefamegame.com to encourage mlb to do continue with the plans to get rid of the game.
  15. I think one of the reasons they would never make it a regulation game is the dimensions of the field.
  16. And not getting up for awhile. I think not getting up for awhile could apply to part and the whole.
  17. Here's an article about the game and its history.
  18. And another quote by Burnett from another article. Link.
  19. Kristian is going to flip when he reads that!
