    Somewhere I have a baseball signed by the entire 95 Cubs I got graphing the Astrodome in Houston.

    Yeah, moving positions at this point caught me off guard. I do kinda think we'll see him in September or even sooner now. I doubt the service time is as important as it is with Bryant since Javy's not the virtual lock to be somewhere between an above average hitter to MVP caliber and is more likely to talk extension I would think. Also, he'll need to go through a period of striking out 40% of the time, so it would be nice to get that over with. Most important part to me. If the Cubs maintain hope of contending next year, barring a big trade Baez probably needs to be good to make it happen. Might as well burn his traditional terrible first 100 or so PAs now. i don't know how much we care about stuff like this, but i imagine that burying those 100 pa's at the end of this season would draw a lot less attention than throwing him out there at the beginning of next year. on the other hand, if we pretend it's possible to damage javy's ego, he might be better off not getting those first 100 pa's and then having the season suddenly end. Might we call Manny up to help with Baez's transition. I know Manny has nothing left in the tank, but I would love to see him in a Cubs uniform.

    I think Piazza was pretty crappy defensively and he wasn't a liability for his team. Kendall early in his career had issues defensively as well. Barrett was pretty shitty behind the dish too.

    I will be honest with you, if I'm the Cubs and deciding to deal with the Mets and the Mets want either Castro, Russell, or Baez- it's going to cost you and cost you dearly. It will take the Noah Snydddidiinguy and probably Kevin Plawecki and another guy- maybe Matz. Castro is a proven player, and all-star, and signed to a team-friendly contract. Russell and Baez have higher ceilings and are more likely to hit them than your guy- so the pot would have to be sweetened and quite a bit in my opinion- especially if you want Castro.

    I'm in Memphis tonight and will arrive in Chicago sometime tomorrow evening. I voted lots in the car while my wife was driving today. You can also vote by text. That's pretty easy.

    Between that and fans of other teams thinking the Cubs have to trade some of their SS away, there's some comedy gold to be found on a lot of forums. Some Yankees fans were going on about how they should be able to get Russell or Baez straight up for Gary Sanchez, "easily". Don't they get if we had wanted Gary [expletive] Sanchez, we would have just traded them Samardzilla for him?

    Yeah, other teams' fans are going to o apeshit thinking the Cubs are going to trade a top 10 prospect for one of their pitchers simply because they want it to happen.
