  1. The only teams that are going to offer anything of value for Favre are those who: 1. Don't already have a QB to whom they are committed and 2. Think they are a QB away from being a true contender. That also limits the number of teams with interest.
  2. Interesting, except it seems the Padres aren't dealing him. He would have made a nice acquisition.
  3. Yeah, they could trade him. But they aren't going to trade him to anyone who could challenge them. They are going to want to trade him out of the division, and likely out of the NFC. That reduces the number of teams dramatically.
  4. My nephew and I were at the HR derby in Houston in 2004. It was fun, but we were hoping for a better showing from Sammy.
  5. Brett has no say. He can force the Packers to place him back on the roster, but he has no leverage to force a release. He can ask for a trade, but he doesn't have any say in where he is traded. If he comes back and is placed on the roster, he could be a malcontent if he isn't starting, but that's about all the leverage he has. If he announces he wants to come back, but refuses to show for training camp, etc if he isn't released, the Packers would then have a reason to suspend him which would then be the same as if he stayed retired. It's a messy situation, but I don't blame the Packers for calling his bluff. What they are doing is exactly how they should handle it. My guess is their hope is Favre decides it isn't worth it and decides to stay retired.
  6. I love how people on a message board like to tell others what they can and can't tell other people. Oh, you can tell them anything you want. I'm just glad I don't give a crap what you say.
  7. I love how people on a message board like to tell others what is "cool." I'm so glad it's been years since I was in middle school.
  8. Does this image make Packer fans cringe? http://msn.foxsports.com/id/8337434_18_1.jpg
  9. I'm going with the darkhorse Morneau.
  10. I think the Yankees will end up with Ben Sheets.
  11. Aww come on, Yeti. Get you ass down there this weekend. I'll be there with my brother and nephew. And I would have jumped on these tickets except I needed three instead of two.
  12. Ummm....I think you meant Beckett. Though John Burkett did pitch for Boston in 2002-2003. And was a deadline deal in 1996, but not for the Red Sox. That year, he went from the Marlins to the Rangers.
  13. According to this article, Link, Ron Mahay is available. Another interesting bullpen arm listed there is Chad Bradford. His numbers aren't bad this year. Bradford is more of a roogy, but this year he hasn't gotten right handers out as well as he has in the past. He might come cheap.
  14. Here's an interesting take on the market. There's a listing of players whose names have been tossed around here some as well as other commentary. One point I found particularly interesting.... And it appears lefty relievers are all too popular these days... All three of those are names that were tossed about this morning as players who could fill a need for the Cubs. And here's a tidbit about the Cubs acquisition of Harden:
  15. Everyone is going to be asking for the moon this early. The prices may come down some as the deadline gets closer, but for a team like the Mariners, there's no incentive to move a player early unless the price is something they know they can't any better. I doubt the Mariners get anything close to Parker or Scherzer for Ibanez, but there's no reason to deal him yet. Right now, they can hope the Dbacks panic and give in. As the deadline gets closer, they might get more reasonable in their asking price.
  16. To be honest, I don't know. My guess is he could be had for one really good prospect or a package of prospects. I think Fuentes will be the most expensive to acquire. After that, it's all anyone's guess with relievers like Weathers and Rhodes on the cheap end, if anyone has interest in them at all. The Braves have needs at 1b (assuming they move Tex), SP (though they are loaded with young, but inconsistent arms), and OF (though Brandon Jones and Jordan Shafer are highly thought of). To get Gonzalez, the Braves might be willing to do a Wuertz for Gonzalez swap. Wuertz would give them a pretty good reliever under team control for a few more years. They might also have interest in Hoffpauir. but I'd think something would have to be included along with Hoffpauir to get it done.
  17. Unless an injury strikes, I don't think we need another SP. I'd like another bullpen arm. Gonzalez, Fuentes, Mahay, and Guardardo would top my shopping list.
  18. and they immediately piss the lead away in the bottom of the 7th... down by 1 again. Make that down by three.
  19. Aaron Miles just tripled in two more for the Cards. Yes, Aaron Freaking Miles.
  20. Cardinals retake the lead 5-4 on a RBI ground out by Izturis.
