  1. BCB actually scooped the media. Don't see that very often. I agree with others, that I don't really like this move. Gerald Perry is not the problem with the Cubs recent slump. Get rid of Miles, Freel etc. and get some players that can actually hit.
  2. Has anyone noticed TT's splits? 1.3+ OPS vs. Left handed pitching.
  3. How long does Soriano have left on his contract? If it is more than 3 years, there is no team that will want him unless the Cubs eat half his salary. Unless the wheels come completely off, I really don't see a scenario in which Hendry has a firesale. The division is just not very good and any team is one hot stretch away from taking the lead.
  4. Agreed Scales has done surprisingly well coming off the bench.
  5. The Cardinals would probably take Miles back.
  6. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/baseball/mlb/wires/06/11/2010.ap.bbo.baseball.draft.miami.football.0212/ Sounds like a solid prospect. :-)) I'm guessing that a 46th rounder probably doesn't get much of a bonus? So this is just a pure hope to get lucky on the Cub's part?
  7. It may be that Hendry can get an offensive player in a trade but will have to trade a young SP?
  8. http://www.blackcollegebaseball.com/News/ewc/2008/4/22/042308itp_ewc.asp?path=ewc I thought they drafted Joseph Thomas? I'm assuming it is the same guy.
  9. Springfield signed a letter of intent with ISU. http://www.goredbirds.com/sports/m-basebl/spec-rel/111308aaf.html
  10. I've grown to like Blanco in the short time he has been with the Cubs. Incredible defense and he is finally starting to hit.
  11. Please tell me that Scheppers wasn't available. I'm hoping that the Cubs start to draft some pitching with their next picks.
  12. Scheppers and Wheeler were available and the Cubs took Jackson? :banghead: :banghead:
  13. The first two starts I thought it was luck, but I'm starting to think Wells may be for real. I don't think he is a Sub 2.00 ERA ace, but his stuff has been pretty damn good, and he does throw strikes. Definitely has earned a rotation spot for now.
  14. He could use some one to get on him about lazily letting balls get by him like on Tues. night.
  15. He is currently guaranteed through the 2010 season and has a vesting option for 2011. If he plays 75 games this year - and this year only - the option automatically vests and become guaranteed for 2011. If it doesn't automatically vest, then I believe it's a team option. Games played is a not a good indicator to base a vesting option on. He could reach that simply by staying on the bench and pinch hitting once and awhile. I thought it was originally reported that the vesting option was 300 abs or something like that. Either way, it looks like unless he has a serious injury, he will be with the Cubs for another two years.
  16. The Tribune only just recently started to spend money and I doubt that Ricketts is purchasing the franchise with an intent to cut payroll.
  17. Does Z have any trade value with his contract?
  18. This team, in its current state, is not good. I'd replace "bad" with underperforming. There will be some regression (up) by the offense, the starting rotation will be fine, but it definitely needs bullpen help. I think it's absolutely insane to think this team is going anywhere this season. I said a month and a half ago, this team was a 75-80 win team. Aramis is not going to come back and mash the ball. The bullpen is horrible, Wells will not pitch like this all season, Soriano sucks, Theriot is coming back to earth, and so is Fuku. Soto is proving with every game that last season was an abberation and not the norm, Bradley sucks when he's on the field (which isn't very often). Zambrano is now deciding he doesn't need to catch the team flight, after getting suspended for 6 games, Piniella keeps making boneheaded decisions, we have gaping holes at this current time at 2nd, 3rd, catcher, RF, and the ENTIRE bullpen. The list goes on and on. It's June - two months into the season. When do you finally sit back and say - "this team sucks"?? Now is the time to say that. Just imagine if Hendry had sold high on Soto during the offseason.
  19. As much as I liked Bradley's production potential, his injuries were too much for me. I wasn't a big Ibanez fan either, though. I wanted Dunn. who completely destroys the ball at Wrigley Field, i havent seen many players hit home runs as far as he can seriously they sounded the sirens once and evacuated he hit them so far http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odk0k1Updok The only concern I had about Dunn was his defense, but I felt like if Bradley missed his usual amount of time (60+ games) that Dunn would be better for the duration than whoever went out to right field when Bradley wasn't there. I still really want Bradley to prove me wrong, though. Bradley is a walking injury. He reminds me of Rondell White. Hopefully, if he continues at this pace he won't reach the conditions for his final year to kick in.
  20. Did i miss something in regard to Wells tonight? He gave up the one HR, then the next play should have been an easy out, then Lou takes him out? Its not like he had a high pitch count or was getting hit hard all night. Lou with the knee jerk reaction to go to the 2nd or 3rd worst pen in the NL.
  21. For once I actually watched Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN and found myself agreeing with Joe Morgan. He was dead on pointing out that over the winter that the Cubs were over sensitive about left handed hitting and in the process actually might have made their team worse. This isn't the first time that Hendry has over reacted (remember the we need a leadoff hitter spaz that landed the Cubs Pierre). The moves he took issue with most were the fact that Hendry kept spouting off about the need for left handed hitting and wanted to play Fontenot and Bradley, etc. at the expense of the more versatile DeRosa and losing Wood to FA. As Morgan pointed out, Hendry was trying to put together a team to compete in the Playoffs, which is all well and good if the team actually makes the playoffs. Hendry this past offseason put the cart before the horse. Now there is plenty of season left for the Cubs to turn it around, but how nice would it be to have DeRosa on the team right now? Marquis was no prize, but he would be an improvement over some of the current Cubs staff. Fukudome and Johnson to date would have been a decent combo out in CF and RF........
  22. Sonny decided to bypass the early entry to the majors, and he is now playing for Vanderbilt University. He will be a stud in a year or two, expect first round implications out of this kid. So because he didn't sign last year, he is not eligible to be drafted this year? Yes. As a HS Senior, you have to sign or wait 3 years(in some cases 2). Thanks for clearing that up. :D Too bad they couldn't get him signed last year.
