  1. Whatever happened to that pitcher the Cubs drafted in the 26th or so round? I think his name was Sonny Gray ?
  2. The pressure on the guy is tremendous. Not only does he have to constantly hear about how bad his defense is, he also knows that with Lou, if he makes one mistake he is probably going to sit on the bench for the rest of his call up.
  3. according to the Tribune story it sounds like Fox is taking grounders at third under the watchful eye of Trammel and that as soon as Trammel gives Lou the OK that Fox will play third. I will just go on the record and say that if Trammel can coach Fox to be avg or slightly below avg defensively at 3B he is one hell of an infield coach.
  4. Is Archer a power pitcher?
  5. Anyone got a link to the video?
  6. Blah. Sounds like the Cubs could use this guy now.
  7. I'm sure if Hendry gets the green light, he will find a way to get Kouzmanoff in the deal.
  8. Patton looked good last night. His breaking pitch looked devastating and I wouldn't mind Lou actually giving him a chance to pitch once in awhile. As far as Cotts and Heilman are concerned, I have no idea why they are still on the roster.
  9. Problem is, Ricketts can't give the ok until he's officially the owner. He won't be that until the sale is completed. Good to see that the Cubs are back in negotiations with San Diego. I'm positive that if Ricketts was okay with adding Peavy's salary that the deal would be consummated. At this point there is little doubt that Ricketts will be the new owner.
  10. I dont know bout yall but im hopin for Heilman I was worried when they let Howry walk, but Heilman has quashed all those fears.
  11. It is great to see Jackson adjusting to AA and they need to get Cashner to a team where he can pitch on a regular basis. Poor Daytona.
  12. :-)) And that's what the recent attitudes seem to amount to. I'm angry, so I want someone to pay for making me angry. It's comical to think that we're more upset than the team, manager, and GM. I'm sure they are just as frustrated...actually moreso, than we are. Cub fans just watched their team lose 7 games in a row in pathetic fashion. Why wouldn't the fans be angry? Should they be sending the Cubs condolence cards? I would be more concerned if the fans didn't care. Sure there is some over reaction, but having angry fans, means having a fan that actually give a rip about what is going on with the team. These angry fans are generally the fans that go to ballgames, introduce their kids the Cubs, buy Cubs merchandise and post messages on websites that are dedicated to the Cubs (like NSBB). Sure you have a right to be angry, but calling for the firings of managers, GM's, hitting coaches, bullpen catchers, etc. is ridiculous and actually counter-productive to the team's performance for the remainder of the season. Be angry...be frustrated....I surely am. But also use some insight or perspective when thinking about what should be done. Fair point, but when people get angry they tend to say irrational things. It adds nothing to the conversation to mock them for being angry, if anything it generally tends to make a person more angry. And there have been people calling for the firing of the GM, manager, hitting coach etc. even before the season started. I'm not one of them, but I've seen some pretty well thought out posts on the board detailing the rationale for firing Hendry and Lou. I think a case could be made that Gerald Perry hasn't done a very good job this year to date. The team seems to have lost its patience at the plate and several key players have been in prolonged slumps. Is it all his fault? Of course not, but usually its the hitting coach that takes the fall for these problems. I also think the Cubs have a pretty damn good hitting coach at Iowa that I wouldn't mind seeing in Chicago.
  13. But Fox could outhit and outrun him lol. If Fox is really that bad in the field, I want to see it. He must be the worst fielder in the history of professional baseball. I think I could take the comedy in terrible fielding over the lack of hitting at the moment. :-)) I'm almost with you, but being that he is the best hitting in the PCL atm and the Cubs are still unwilling to give him a shot says a great deal about his defense.

  15. The Cubs are only one hot streak from being in the playoff picture again. We have to remember they are in the Central division and most of the teams are severely flawed. Just for fun though, if the Cubs did become sellers, I think they would have quite a few players that other teams would be interested in. Fukudome -- Hendry couldn't get anything for him this winter, but the guy plays a pretty good CF and may be an ideal leadoff hitter for a team in the playoffs. Lilly -- the amount of his contract was widely panned at the time of signing. But his performance over the last 2+ years has been terrific and with only 1 1/2 years left on his contract, it would be cheap enough for every team to get interested in. Lee -- the Angels tried to trade for him over the winter, but he invoked his no-trade clause. He is also getting pretty hot at the moment. Because of his name and only one year remaining on his contract, some team would take a risk on him if he would waive his NTC. The better his numbers continue to get the more his value goes up. Johnson -- Would make a nice bench player or CF for alot of teams. Gregg -- maybe he would do better in a non-closer role Heilman -- can't imagine anyone would want him, but hey the Mariners and Cubs bit this off season. Miles -- maybe the Cards are in it, and want a SS/utility guy? (a guy can dream right?) Bradley -- if Texas is still in it maybe they take him back hoping he will find the magic.
  16. Is the game being delayed? MLB.com still has the commercial screen on.
  17. I wonder what the Padres would take from the Cubs at this point? Marshall, Thomas, & Jackson?
  18. I wouldn't mind seeing this trade go through. Peavy is a pretty good pitcher, but starting pitching is not the Cubs problem this year. And as mentioned before, at least it keeps him from going to the Brewers or Cardinals.
  19. No. What I am saying is that the Cubs were never built to be good enough to win the world series for the last 100 years. Something is very, very wrong with this organization and how they put together baseball teams. If I could figure it out, I would be a GM. But slapping together a team, pushing them out the door and hoping to make the playoffs every year and then saying "aw shucks, guys, go get 'em next year" hasn't worked. The track record speaks for itself. And continually not being able to get past the NLDS and saying "aw shucks guys, go get 'em next year" may not work either. We will see this year, won't we? It's relevant to team and organization psyche. And if theCubs fail to move past the NLDS again with a top 3 NL payroll, you can bet your tail that there is something deeply wrong with the mental makeup of the Chicago Cubs. It is completely unrealistic to not expect mental blowback from being repeatedly torched in the NLDS. Anyone who argues otherwise never took a psych class. Not sure that I follow your argument? The Cubs haven't had one GM or one philosophy regarding putting together a team for the last 100 years. Instead there have been many different factors at play. There are also many other things at play other than mental makeup.
  20. Wasn't Brandon Guyer a sleeper prospect for many of the publications? I was hoping that he could put in a good season this year, but he is really struggling at AA. .494 OPS? I wonder if he is hurt or just overmatched.
  21. I hope that he makes the best out of it. :D
  22. and a non-torn labrum too. And a manager that knows how to handle him. I can't believe this Prior is a [expletive] stuff is still continuing as he comes back too injured to pitch every season. What's not to believe? That rap will be with Prior for the rest of his career (if he has one anymore). I can't believe the blame everyone but Mark Prior stuff is still around.
  23. The second one would have been a double but Flaherty had to make sure the LFer didnt catch it when he dove. so he stopped at second. Nate, is Harrison as impressive as his stat line shows? Can't imagine there are too many 2b opsing .900 +.
