  1. Theyd probably prefer Marshall or even Wells over Harden. Harden is a free agent next year, so there not going to trade a guy whose going to be a free agentat the end of next year for a guy whose going to be a free agent at the end of this year They can re-sign Harden, though. He's only 27 (28 next year) and likely won't get much of a raise over this year's salary. If healthy, he's probably a better pitcher than Lee anyway. He'll be a lot cheaper than Lee to re-sign as well. That being said, the more I think about it the more I think I really don't want to deal Jackson. Lee could be similar to a guy like Lilly who is still highly productive in his 32-35 range, but who knows for sure? I think I like Jackson's potential too much. Trading Harden to get another pitcher would be pointless.
  2. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog?post=4354314&name=levine Why in the hell would the Cubs be interested in Gorzo to solve the "left handed starting problem" when we have Sean Marshall? Why the hell would the Cubs be interested Tom Gorzelanny when we have guys who arent Tom Gorzelanny? BCB specifically said Cubs fans would be happy with the pitcher Hendry was looking at, that automatically rules out Gorzelanny.
  3. How would Jonathan Sanchez make Cub fans happy? He is terrible.
  4. Does this mean that Guzman is hurt now too?
  5. Should have tried to sell high.
  6. Randy Wells has got nothing.
  7. Ump must have a very small strike zone today. The first three pitches to Fuku on gameday all were in the strikezone and were called balls.
  8. Is Cashner on the 40 man roster? I'm not advocating bringing him up yet, but with all of the call ups and such, if he is on the 40 man, it might make him a candidate to make the start.
  9. Getting Zaun would be the move that would put the Cubs over the top.
  10. I'm now officially sold on Marshall as a bullpen arm. Since going to the pen his numbers have been spectacular and as we know from the last few years it is tough to find a situational lefty that you can count on during crucial parts of the game. If the Cubs get another LOOGY, I hope they do it with the intention of having two lefties in the pen for the rest of the year and not returning Marshall to the rotation. The way the Cubs rotation is set, you really can't ask for much more and I don't think Marshall is going to make a big difference over Wells or any other starter.
  11. Perhaps Fox is the 3b that's missing from your lineup ???? Oops  I accidentally deleted ARAM while pasting. ARAM is 4th
  12. per Yahoo: R. Johnson cf R. Theriot ss D. Lee 1b A. Ramirez 3b M. Bradley rf A. Soriano lf J. Baker 2b K. Hill c C. Zambrano p Is Lou pissed off at Fox or just trying to make a point to hendry? Either way, it is inexcusable to have one of your hottest hitters riding the pine the entire series when you need offense as badly as the Cubs do.
  13. Pitcher of the day? :-))
  14. You are likely right, and getting a RH 2b would prevent one of the LH bats on the team (fontenot) from playing everyday. For no logical reason, I'm going to give Hendry a pass and assume that he is working to get Sanchez. Is there any indication out of Pittsburgh as to what they are looking for in return? The Cubs have a decent AA 2b (Thomas) and some younger pitching Marshall, Hart, Stevens, Gaub, Parker etc. But I certainly wouldn't give up a Vitters, Castro, J. Jackson type prospect. btw the Cubs could even throw in A. Miles so the Pirates would have a 2b with major league experience to finish out the year.
  15. Speaking of DeRosa, last time I looked Aaron Miles was hitting below .200 in AAA! How long can they keep him in Iowa, before they are forced to call him up? And at what point does Hendry admit his mistake and either trade him or DFA?
  16. I guarantee Milton Bradley leaves town as one of the most hated Cubs ever. The recent espn article mentions how he has really poisioned the Cubs clubhouse. I'd do whatever it took to get rid of this guy. Seriously, what a horrible decision to bring him here. Just another example of how inept the Cubs front office is. Yes, bringing in a mentally unstable player to play under the pressure of wrigley and the Cub's fan was a terrible move. I was hoping initially that Hendry was on to something, but its obvious more than half way through the season the move is not paying off. I just never saw it from him. He put up great numbers last year playing in a bandbox with 12 people in the stands. Nobody was there to watch him anyway, it was all about Hamilton and his great story. Plus, they had the luxury of playing him at DH. Some players can handle the fishbowl of playing for the Cubs. I never thought bradley was one of those guys and, unfortunately, I think we're stuck with him. Milton Bradley is OPSing 900+ in front of those crazy Wrigley fans that he can't handle. And .573 on the road. Maybe he is the anti-harden? Lou should only play him at home?

  18. I thought this was a joke! :-)) On a side point, it looked like the work Lou has done with Bradley paid off in spades tonight. Nice AB.
  19. These are the type of teams you have to take advantage of. It is great to finally see that little glimmer of hope that maybe the team can start pulling it together. Fuku seems to be much more comfortable in the leadoff spot, and is returning to form. With Hoffpauir and Fox hitting the way they are, Bradley better get it going or it looks like the Cubs may have a better option. The O could really get going and a middle of the order of Lee, Rami, Sori, and Fox(or Bradley) could be pretty formidable.
  20. Finalized to whom? I would assume it would be Ricketts if that is all he said. But, I have a hard time believing that the bankruptcy court moved that quickly and that MLB has already approved the new owners.
  21. Retroactive to last game played is standard operating procedure. Why make the point that it won't be retroactive? I see your point, but a fractured big toe is going to take well over 15 days to heal. So overall the decision of whether or not to make the DL stint retroactive is meaningless.
  22. That makes zero sense. It's almost automatically retroactive. Even if they don't THINK he'll be ready before 15 days from today there's no reason not to at least have the flexibility. If they made it retroactive to that date they couldn't recall Hart because he was on the roster July 3rd. They want Hart and they know it will be at least 15 days for Demp so they made it active from today. I wasn't aware of that rule concerning Hart. That makes a difference. But it doesn't make sense. You aren't making Hart's callup retroactive, just the DLd player. It's 2 seperate moves. If they wanted they could turn around and send Hart down and call somebody else back up. If you have medical findings that show a fractured toe and healing time for the toe will be well over 15 days, what is the point of DL'ing Dempster retroactive to the date he last pitched?
  23. why? Probably going to take at least 4 -6 weeks to heal properly. So there is no point on making it retro.
  24. Why in the world would the Cubs have Zambrano start on short rest? Why not just pitch Hart tonight and Z tomorrow?
  25. You'd think it'd be better that it's the Right toe rather than the left toe (his push off foot). Where the hell did this come from anyways? Wouldn't his right foot be his push off foot?
