    Maybe not necessary, but if the plan is to put him in the major league bullpen this summer, giving him a couple outings there in AAA couldn't hurt. Yeah, that's my feeling. If Jackson is relieving at Iowa for months, then yeah, it's dumb. But if it's to acclimate him to the role before the promotion, eh. Has he pitched in relief lately? and how has he been? Any increase in velocity or stuff?

    Yeah, I would be interested to see what it was tonight. Oneri said that it was 96-97 last time out for the whole outing.

    During one of the chats last year with a BA or BP guy, I remember the person rating Jackson's ceiling as either a middle of the rotation starter, or dominant reliever. I don't remember if it was Callis or Sickels or someone else.

    I like this move. Castro did great in the AFL, Spring Training and AA. The way the Cubs are playing right now, they can afford to give him a shot. Worst case scenario, he has some growing pains and the Cubs have to live with low production from their SS. That is no worse than playing Fontenot and Baker on a daily basis. Best case scenario is that he catches fire and some of the other hitters catch fire and the Cubs offense puts up some numbers more in line with expectations.

    Surprised to see Lou going with Colvin again. Also surprised not to see Nady in the lineup.

    During spring training his fastball was not very impressive high 80's topping out at 90. His fastball seemed pretty straight, but his off speed pitch, assuming it is the change you are talking about looked, decent. I don't know much about him pre-TJS but I was under the assumption that he was a power pitcher at one point (mid-90's heat). Either way, his numbers so far in Iowa look pretty good.

    Soriano, ARAM and Soto are all pieces of the blockbuster trade Steve Stone was talking about. :^o

    Don't see how his 1.86WHIP is going to help the bullpen. It seems to me that Z is one of those pitchers that gets harder to hit the deeper he gets in the game.

    Silva's a cancer Only problem was that Silva told Rothschild that he was sore. Silva apologized for his statement almost immediately after, but I guess that doesn't make for good Lou bashing.

    He's had essentially the same numbers as Fukudome and Byrd, and Soriano has the same exact average. It's not like Colvin is smoking hot, or that great of a bet to be much better than any of the three. He's still Tyler Colvin. So far he has only had half of the chances of the rest. Also, any numbers are suspect due to small sample size. But, based on the numbers Colvin's OBP is over 100 pts higher than Byrd and Soriano. His OPS is over .200 higher than Soriano.

    Suntimes predicts that Cashner will be with the Cubs by the start of the Mets series. Not sure how I feel about that.

    I'm impressed with Colvin's plate discipline so far. Judging from his minor league numbers, you would think he would hack at everything.

    Who knows. Maybe Lou plans for Colvin to play for Byrd tomorrow and plans to have him bat 5th both days? I would like to see Colvin get some more Abs though.

    It's so close to that deadline though that I doubt they would put somebody on the DL just to get an extra reliever for a game after an off day. It could be that Caridad's strain was going to keep him out for 4-5 days and they decided just to sit him down for 15 and bring up Gray now. But I do think he has some sort of injury as a complete phantom DL stint doesn't make much sense and Caridad wouldn't likely be the first choice to receive one of those. I don't think so, either. I was just throwing a potential rationale out there. Right forearm strains combined with a sudden total lack of control often is a sign of an imminent TJS. That makes sense, but it would be a terrible start to the season for the bullpen losing two(Guzman and Caridad) of the arms they were depending on right off the bat. I don't know much about Gray, but I hope that he can help stabilize the pen for the time being.

    Mildly surprised that it was Caridad and not Berg that was put on the DL. I
