  1. My agenda is to play the player who will most likely help us win. For the reasons you stated, I agree that man is Murton. But some say recent trends mean nothing, but that season long or career trends mean everything. Then they change that tune when it suits their purpose and use only recent trends. Me, I like going with the hot hand unless the long-term trend is overwhelming.
  2. what are the sample sizes here? comparing murton's handful of plate appearances to floyd's wealth of them doesn't exactly paint an accurate picture. 190 ab's for Murton and 243 for Floyd. These are season totals, not rightie splits...... 04/02 - 09/02 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS BABIP Murton 190 27 52 9 0 6 79 17 21 29 0.274 0.346 0.416 0.762 0.297 Floyd 244 32 69 9 0 5 93 39 24 42 0.283 0.354 0.381 0.735 0.325 That is correct. Listen, fellas, you can't have it both ways. You can't use stats to support your arguments, then shy away from them when they don't support your arguments. I said I think Murton should be playing in front of Floyd, but the stats against righties don't necessarily support that. Neither does BA with RISP.

  4. floyd 354/380/282 murton 333/390/254 on-base/ slugging/ BA These are the season stats against righties. Now, before you get all hot and bothered, I would vote for Murton to play in front of Floyd, but their season stats shows Floyd with a slight edge against righties. My point is Murton's season stats alone don't make him the starter. As far as defense, both are below average. Murton is clearly faster.
  5. turns out that they did the right thing with DuBois No they didn't. How many times does this have to be gone over? Dubois didn't have to set the world on fire, all he had to do was play better than Todd Hollandsworth. The problem is that we don't know what would have happend becuase Dusty contiuned to trott out a crappy Hollandsworth. It's probably not just the Cubs, its all the MLB. In the NFL you don't see crappy vets given playing time over cheaper and probably just as productive younger players. Kendall is playing well but it's not a good bet that he will put up better numbers than Soto next year or the following. My prediciton if Hendry is still GM, Kendall 2 years @ 4mll/year. Dubois was terrible, he was terrible for the Cubs and for everybody else at the major league level. There just might be a reason he hasn't played in the major leagues since 2005, and it has nothing to do with the CUbs, Hendry, or Dusty. He wished he could have Hollandsworth's career. The Cubs did exactly the right thing by not playing him. Amen. Hard to believe people are still hanging on to Dubois. Choi was "screwed" too. Let's face it, neither were major leaguers.
  6. I would give Matt some starts, and see how he does.
  7. Murton is really getting some big hits. Congrats to Matt!
  8. I thought DLee looked terrific at the plate today. ^^scratches head^^
  9. If he pitches well, I hope we can get him for next year.
  10. He threw nothing but fastballs to the first guy he struck out last night. I would like to see more of that.
  11. My only "concern" is that he throw more fastballs, and less violent sliders.
  12. Thanks Blue, the main thing I try to do on the board I moderate is eliminate personal attacks and ask people to follow the rules. What satisfaction is there in hammering some poster on a message board? As for Murton, I have always had high expectations of him as I really like his skills. Here is to hoping that he has a great last month. :)
  13. No problem. That is what message boards are all about--a chance to share opinions.
  14. no big deal losing those guys. I have liked what I have seen of Monroe so far.
  15. I disagree. He can't put people on base, he can only do what he can do, and it was a big hit in my book. Do you actually think I was being serious? I think my stance on this matter is very documented through this pointless thread. Murton has had quite a few big hits for us since being recalled, plain and simple. However Im sure you will continue to call him out for his AB's where he doesnt get that "big hit" while the supposed stars of this team continue to keep sucking without you saying a word. Sorry, I don't keep track of individuals here and their stance on certain players. I am too busy for that, and it would serve no purpose. As I said, I am cheering hard for Matt and think he can help us down the stretch. I would hope all Cub fans would feel the same way.
  16. good move. And as somebody else said, Fielder was less likely to score on a extra base hit because of his lack of speed.
  17. I disagree. He can't put people on base, he can only do what he can do, and it was a big hit in my book. Thanks for clearing that up. Before you posted, I wasn't sure whether to cheer or boo for that HR. Maybe you could just post your thoughts on each of Murton's ABs for the rest of his career in this thread. Doesn't have to be big, just "big hit" or "terrible AB" or something. I just need to know what the official stance on each of his ABs is. Sorry, but I don't have time for that. I think a few here would help you out with that though. I hope yesterday's game and today's start get him going on a hot streak. We need his bat and he is capable of helping us down the stretch.
  18. I disagree. He can't put people on base, he can only do what he can do, and it was a big hit in my book.
  19. atta boy Matt! Oops in right field.
  20. You just leave this thread open on your desktop waiting for the oppurtunity? Nope, I just get damn frustrated with his continual inability to get a clutch hit.
  21. Please Matt, get one clutch hit with men on base. Please.
  22. Oh, I'd definitely agree. I probably still would have played it closer to the way you suggest than the way Yost played it. I actually put no stock in the 4 AB's against Linebrink-that's so few at-bats that one hard hit out that falls for a double changes the statistics all the way. The 10 at-bats is a little more statistically significant only because of the extra base hits. If Jacque had been 4/10 with 4 singles, then it could just be passed off as luck. 2 HR's and a double could still be mostly lucky pitches, but it's a lot less likely. Also, there are about 3 Cubs who the Brewers would really love to save that situational left-hander for (4 if you count Pie). With Jones having great numbers against Shouse, even in a limited number of at-bats, it just wasn't the right time to use him, especially after Linebrink entered the game which meant the Brewers probably would have had to use 3 relievers to get out of the 7th if they brought in Shouse. Like I said, I wouldn't have played it the way Yost did, but I don't think it's completely cut and dry that he's wrong either. Wouldn't this have been the equivalent of having Marquis in the game with a 2 run lead? If the Cubs were in the same situation, most of us would have been begging Lou to get Marmol in there after the Floyd AB. I think Yost played it the way he should have. It is easy to second guess his decisions now, but Linebrink was acquired for those exact situations. He just failed to come through last night. He has failed to come through all season long for both teams he has played for....
  23. He is pretty damn good.
  24. no. Hell, we make up things around here to be "worried" about. That is what Cub fans do..
