  1. Honestly, if you want to be an uber-pessimist, that's fine. But you don't have to preach it like the gospel. We can all see what is going on, and don't need people exacerbating our existing frustration. If you want to vent, that's fine. But the "I told you so" BS is really annoying. Sorry to have annoyed you. I will cut the "I told you so" B.S. immediately. It *definitely* seems like some people on this board won't accept any criticism of the Cubs whatsoever no matter what happens. Not singling anyone out----just seems that way. And that's fine too. But there needs to be some balance to the discussion when catastrophies like Wood & Prior or Lee happen. These are crushing blows. CRUSHING. Some like to ignore them and move on. I don't. And I don't see how either view should be attacked. Seems like people who try to say "things are not good" around here get attacked and labeled. I think that's completely unfair, especially in our current situation. I think there's a difference between doing it for certain situations and doing it constantly.
  2. So is there anything actually new on the injuries or was this entire thread the exact same Neifi debate that has taken place 38,283 times on this board?
  3. What's Ron supposed to say in that situation? Maybe I'm a jerk, but something in English would do. I am glad that he pulls for this team, but he adds nothing to the broadcast, especially in situations where things are not going well. Why? It's his job to react and he reacts just like us. Pat is the one you count on to give information and a good report.
  4. Yep, good to hear. I was getting worried after Craig Neal interviewed for the job. He's been a big asset over the last two+ years at Iowa.
  5. Apparently Anderson is still the guy but it looks like Alden will be fired. Anderson is getting 6 years at $1.3M a year. Wow.
  6. Good Lord Mizzou is a mess right now.
  7. Here is the latest rundown by PowerMizzou.com now that Dixon is apparently staying at Pitt: http://missouri.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=527543 I would agree that Alford and Anderson appear to be most likely now. I hope Alford stays but if not I would love Majerus. He's a little strange but reportedly he's getting his health back together and is serious about getting back into it. It's kind of surprising how silent they've kept all of this.
  8. You out there TT? Supposedly Mike Anderson was in to interview today and Mizzou could be announcing their hire tonight. A lot of people think Alford could still be in play after the search committee shakeup. I've also heard that Alden's job could be in trouble with the way this has all gone down.
  9. Dixon was at the bottom of the conference in pay this year. They were going to bump that up, but not tremendously high from what was rumored. ASU is paying him $900K per year, plus I think he's originally a west coast guy and that was a big motivation for him leaving. I see no reason why he can't go to Arizona State and have them competing consistently around the top half of the league. What does Arizona have that ASU doesn't? They didn't have much tradition until Lute arrived either. That could be a very good gig. Actually Dixon leaving Pitt to take the ASU job is somewhat similar to Lute leaving Iowa for Arizona. Both were having great success at their current schools, were very well liked by fans and took jobs that looked to be a step down. Both also wanted to get back to the warm weather and thought that there would a little less pressure/fish bowl effect in Arizona.
  10. So Mizzou is interviewing Mike Anderson, right? Would he appear to be their guy right now? Seton Hall fired Louie Orr today and it sounds like Jamie Dixon could be leaving Pitt for Arizona State as people rumored.
  11. Tiger (or anyone who knows what's going on at MU) what's the deal with the shakeup in Mizzou's search committee? It sounds like the guy who really didn't want Alford is off the committee.
  12. It's not just about the DUI and I apologize if I'm wrong but it doesn't seem like you paid close attention to how he ran his program at Cincy. There's a reason that more high-profile schools didn't want anything to do with him. It's not because he can't deliver wins.
  13. I agree, it's debatable. I also make distinctions between top 5-10 of all time, top programs in the last whatever number of years and top programs right now.
  14. Make a good argument putting them in front of either UCLA, Indiana, UNC, Duke, or Kentucky. The top 5 go ahead I will wait for it. KU is a top 10 program or second tier. Hey Bill, that Sommerville kid can shoot might want to guard him. I think they're in front of Duke. They had a few Final Four appearances in the 60's, but other than that they were pretty much irrelevant until the late 80's. Yeah they've quite possibly been the best program since 1989, but that's not all that matters. It's close and they're right there, but I would give them the nod.
  15. snoodmonger is right. Kansas is definitely up with those other first-tier programs, and many agree that they are probably top 5 all-time.
  16. They played Michigan and IU played Duke. When's the last time Iowa went to the Final Four? Not sure if you're going somewhere with that or just asking... 1980
  17. Okay, that's why I asked. I couldn't remember if he did that far back. Did they play Michigan or Duke that year? By the way should we just change the title of this thread to something about all college basketball coaching changes? Just a suggestion.
  18. Settle down there Wildcat. Did Huggins ever make it to the Final Four at Cincinnati? Like Cuse said Huggins can win games, but I would want nothing to do with him near my school. I guess winning with a bunch of thugs and a slimy coach doesn't appeal to me.
  19. I think it's easier to succeed at Mizzou than Iowa, mostly because of the recruiting base. They also probably have better facilities now and a ton of financial support behind the program. Still Alford is a Big Ten guy, and unless he was fired from Iowa, the only realistic job I would have seen him leaving for is Indiana's.
  20. http://hawkeyesports.collegesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/032206aab.html There's the press release.
  21. What a soap opera this has turned into. There are a lot of conspiracy theories flying around right now. The most common one is that Bowlsby and Alford used this Mizzou interest to force Indiana's hand one way or the other.
  22. Altman seems the most likely to me. He and Bowlsby have been rumored to have a mutual admiration for 5 years now.
  23. Yeah I can understand being upset and not having him at the top of your list, but geez. The guy runs a clean program and has done a lot to disspell the arrogant image he had early on here. I actually think he can do pretty well at MU. He's learned from a lot of his mistakes, will have a fresh start and a solid recruiting base. He'll have the facilities and funds needed to get the job done. There are rumors flying that if he took the Mizzou job, Buzz Peterson would come on board to be his associate head coach. I'm really not sure where that came from and would assume it means that Craig Neal is planning on taking a head job somewhere. If Alford and Buzz come to MU it's almost a guarantee that you would land Tyler Smith (6'7 inside-outside wing) who is a top 50 recruit. He committed to Buzz at Tennessee but then after he was fired he decided he didn't want to go there anymore and Bruce Pearl refused to let him out of his LOI. Thus he was forced to go to prep school this year where people think he improved even more. Iowa is a finalist for him with Pitt, Memphis and Kentucky. He really liked Alford and UK fans felt that if Alford stayed at Iowa, Smith would be coming. By the way is this hiring pretty much all on Alden's plate or is there some kind of search committee?
  24. Why would you never go to a game if Alford is coach?
  25. Ah, now that you mention it I think you're right. I guess I would think maybe that's being overblown when they mention that both he and Huggins have been investigated. Majerus always seemed to run a clean program to me and is much cleaner than Huggy bear. If it was just about coaching, I would love Majerus. He's just a great coach. But he's also a pretty strange guy and lived in a hotel for most, if not all of his stay in Utah. Still if his health were in order (he's supposedly dropped 40-50 pounds) I would be interested.
