  1. Bruce, I have to agree with you on Jimmy. He is one of the best and I am thrilled to see him finally get another shot albeit under really poor circumstances. I do hope it works out for him...I need to get in touch and wish him luck. Met Jimmy a good 10 years ago when he save me from the lecherous Manny Alexander (Manny, leave the nice lady alone...LOL). wait a minute, did you used to work for the cubs? don't tell me, just casually reveal details about it in every single one of your next 500 posts. HUH??? I met Jim Riggleman when I went to see the Cubs on a road trip in 1998. Let's just say...I don't work for Tribune anymore. I left of my own accord.
  2. Because the Brewers are the team that we're holding off, not the Cardinals. +1 Cards just showed what they really are. YAY ROYALS....sweep....sweep...sweep. :yahoo: \:D/
  3. I guess he also forgot that the Reds are coming to town to play next week. JP may not be around to see that from what I have been reading. For a GM, he shows no professionalism and the guy mouthed off when Meche signed with the Royals as well.
  4. It isn't surprising to me. Makes sense that he would have an orthpod do an exam before scheduling an MRI and you don't just scheduled those at the drop of a hat unless it is an emergency situation. Sorry, gang, Z's sore shoulder is not an emergency in the true definition of the word. It doesn't surprise me that someone saw him at the park though.

  6. He has been playing poorly because he has been dealing with a thumb injury most of the season. And in the past, even if he has been in a slump, he whomps on the Cubs. Go look up his numbers in this series on chicagosports.com.
  7. Hank Steinbrenner is WHY MLB doesn't want a clown like Cuban running a team. They already have to deal with Hank Steinbrenner and Jeffrrey Loria as it is. Not really. They had their shot at getting Loria out of the league. Instead, they handed him another team. Contraction was taken off the table so no there wasn't an option but to let him keep the Expos in a move to DC OR to let him take over the Marlins where they felt he would do little damage and let Henry join the Red Sox group. I don't think they thought he would win a WS in a million years after what he did to the Expo franchise. I also think they figured contraction could come up again and the Marlins and their poor attendance, etc would be a likely candidate.
  8. Thats pretty impressive. However, I could have sworn he had some sort of back problem in the past. Yes, he has had some back issues which he aggrivated working out. The big "bugaboo" is he has an arthritic hip problem which will sadly limit his playing days. I think that was part of why he switched from catcher to first base in the minors...that and Mike Piazza being the Dodgers catcher. LOL It's why the Dodgers tried to dump Karros ... to move PK to first because he couldn't play OF and he was awful at 3rd but he could hit. I would be happily surprised to see him playing past 35...meaning not DH. PK cannot DH for long periods as he cannot handle it mentally. He is too hard on himself between at bats and needs to be on the field where he can think of other thigns.

  10. My poor Paulie. So sad to see him go on the DL but yes it IS very lucky for the Cubs with the way he performs in the crosstown series (even when he is in a cold spell). BTW, reason for his struggles are the injuries he has been plagued with...dealing with thumb injury for some time now. Kind of like in late 02 when he struggled and no one realized he had a hairline fracture in his left foot. And as you requested...numbers for PK in the crosstown series for chicagosports.com: PLAYER - (back to top) G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB BA Paul Konerko 47 165 25 50 10 0 14 37 11 27 1 .303
  11. Next two Sunday nights actually. Cubs and Sox HATE when ESPN does that to them. It is why Sundays are allowed via the agreement with the neighborhood. Those Sunday night games are included in the 30 night games the Cubs schedule each year. They leave some leeway by scheduling less than 30 night games for just such a thing. ESPN is only allowed two Sunday night games at Wrigley per season unless that has changed recently usually one before ASB and one after the ASB.
  12. Bringing up A ball players for this game.
  13. Well, actually.... Nah, I am just going to keep my thoughts to myself on this one. No one would believe what I would have to say anyhow. Only thing I will say is if you think what happened in 2004 doesn't happen all the time, you are wrong. Media tends to keep these things under wraps. As for Milton, what he did was hard to keep under wraps.
  14. No the Cubs did not have a choice to make the Friday game a night game. Night games are not allowed via the agreement with the neighborhood on Fridays or Saturdays. Exception would be postseason.
  15. How do you get a rain delay in a dome????
  16. The rule is that on get away day a day game must be scheduled if the visiting team has an off day the next day and the visting team is going home for their next game. If the visiting team is going home to play a game the next day, then the home team is not required to schedule a day game unless the travel time it takes the visiting team to get home is more than a particular time window. I am wanting to say it's 2 or 2 1/2 hours but don't quote me on that. Travel time is determined by the flight and not from the time the game ends until the club arrives in their home city...i.e, what is often called the Cubs rule since the Cubs are the only team which plays day games at home on Fridays. With Chicago being in the center of the country for the most part, it is usually only the west coast where the games are required to be day games. Some teams are accomodating if the Cubs ask them to make the change which they often do but most are not.
  17. Were you beat up or ignored on this board as much as I have been, you would understand. And when I defend myself, I get a hand slap from the admin. Tends to be why I disppear for long periods of time. So you're simultaneously beat up and ignored? Truth is that anyone that is an "insider" posting on a message board is going to get grief. The anonymous nature of the internet is such that a lot of people are cynical of that, and I understand that sentiment. There was quite the chuckle out of the insiders at the Orioles Hangout this offseason. Were they actual insiders? Maybe...that situation was screwed up enough though, that it made them look completely ridculous, and they got shredded much more than you or I ever will. Your posting here is appreciated...you definitely have a unique point of view to present. But the nature of the message board is such that you're going to get criticism based on your "insider" nature and the defensive attitude that you present (rightly or wrongly). If anyone directly insults you the mods will be right there to take care of it (though you may have to point it out to us, we don't see every post). But if you attack someone, then yeah, we're going to let you know about it too. I am 100% sure it has nothing to do with you being female. Most posters probably don't even know that about you. Quite frankly, yes. I have started some threads or made some comments in threads that either die or I get no response. Other times I make a comment in a thread and everyone piles on. So that is why I get frustrated. From now on, I will just let it slide I guess because it isn't worth my effort nor energy to defend myself. Thanks for the kind words. And you are right...I don't believe most people on the internet either but I also don't tend to challenge what they say, I try to ignore them. Trust me, I am removed from that world now and the things I know are solely things from the past unless one of my pals fills me in which tends to be quite often. LOL BTW, please note, when someone has bashed a reporter that I do know and am friends with, I haven't defended that person because it is the writer's opinion. Could have very easily defended Teddy because I think he is a great guy but I didn't. It is the poster's prerogative to like or not like his writing. And it is his editor's prerogative to give him these crazy story ideas that he has to write about.
  18. I guess you would have had to actually heard what was said in the context of the game. Milton and the media are making it sound way worse than it was. I found Stoney's constant personal attacks on Moises Alou to be much worse than anything Ryan said about Milton the other night. I did hear it... but thanks. Sorry was just my humble opinion and I am so terribly sorry that I seem to be incorrect even though it is just my opinion. no reason to be so defensive. Nor condescending... RedIvy was the one telling me my take on the situation was wrong in the first place. Wait a minute... ::looks at avatar of Grudzy in the Royals uni::... you are the Royals announcer aren't you?!? I do apologize because I wasn't trying to say how you saw it or should I say heard it was wrong. I just didn't think it was that bad as it was made out to be and that was my opinion. Nah, I don't even know how to spell his last name so that is why I call him Ryan.

  21. Can you go back in time and tell that to the 2004 team? Thanks. Hmm, Ryan Lefevrbe got accused of comparing apples to oranges... But yes sir you are correct.
  22. Unfortunately the way Bradley handled it played right into what the announcer was saying no matter if the comparsion was fair or not. My thoughts exactly.

  24. Exactly how big is that chip on your shoulder? The person you responded to has all of seven posts on this site. Not to say that their response to you was exactly polite, but my guess is gender played absolutely no role in their response since I doubt they even knew that you're a female. No chip on my shoulder. Just gets rather old that any time I bring up a relavant point or start a thread, I am either ignored, challenged or put down. And yes, this happened from day one. Not sure if people here don't like or don't believe that I ever worked from Tribune.
  25. Not sure why that is a key word when I still have friends and contacts who work there. I don't think you realize the number of Assistant Managing Editors of Sports there have been at Tribune in at least the last decade. Or how many sports editors there have been in the last decade. Quite a few...and they all heard from Jay as well as the main editor and the publisher that I know of for sure. If by guidelines you mean they won't allow their people to appear on other outlets, that is incorrect. Now not so sure under "new" Tribune management since it was all thrown out the window by Zell. But if a writer wanted to appear on another outlet, you had to get permission first and had to reveal in the annual ethics statement any additional monies your received from outside appearances. Sometimes I wonder why I bother though since every time I respond to a post I am challenged by someone as a no nothing. Oh, that's right...I'm a female. got it.
