This is an extra innings loss with Berti batting 9th. Encouraging to see Horton and Shaw make significant contributions in a win even if it’s the Marlins.

Until Brown develops a third pitch he’ll never be a quality starting pitcher. If you’re a hitter you either sit on a fastball or curve ad wait for him to throw you a hittable pitch. He throws nothing that moves horizontally off the plate so as a hitter it’s easy to lay off pitchers on the corners, At 6’7, it’s a lot easier to pick up the spin on a breaking pitch too when it starts at eye level due to his height and over the top delivery. Siitter, cutter, anything. He’ll spend his career in the pen until he develops at least another pitch.

Kind amazing how the cubs are third in MLB in homeruns while having only 1 homer combined from the second and third baseman through 47 games and counting.

They’ve had 11 consecutive 3 game series with at least one game of 3 or less runs and 9/11 with 2>. Only 1 win and that was the home opener vs the Padres.

He plays a bit of 1st base too. Obviously the concern is where you’d put Bush and or put Suzuki in left DH Ballesteros move Hoerner and Dansby over and put Happ at 2B where he has experience which will be a net negative defensively, The net positive from the offense without Berti and Turner will more than compensate ideally. Plus, you have an awful bench and a guy ranking in Iowa, you want to find a way to use it to your advantage.

Zero homeruns. 2 doubles and a 516 OPS on almost 200 ABs, -.8 WAR. I take issue with Turner still being on the ML roster because a 40 YO, soon to retire DH hitting below the Mendoza line is our best option? inexcusable to go into year 3 with a black hole at the hot corner. I just hope they keep Busch in the lineup vs lefties for now on. He’s your everyday 1st baseman and it’s time team him like one. It’s not like he’ll do any worse than Turner, he’ll be better even vs lefties.

You’re putting Nico at shortstop. You have a guy raking in Iowa, try to find a spot for him with below replacement level production from the hot corner. At worst the net benefit is neutral. it was a question not a statement.

Do you bring Ballesteros up and put Busch and 2B or 3B? This team needs to score runs to win and I’m sick of seeing these automatic outs like Berti and Turner in the everyday lineup.

W This is also the worst bench I can remember. Busch Suzuki and Kelly were going to regress from their 900 OPS+ pace, not a surprise the scoring is down ever since Carson Kelly remembered he’s Carson Kelly and not babe Ruth. third base, rotation and pen are trending as expected. 88 wins it is, although it’s still the cubs we’re talking about l.
