I want Skubal to be a Cub. If he doesn't (which we won't trade for him), then I'll like to see him in St. Pete, and pitch for the Rays. But, I'm curious to see if Dodgers trade for him, does the Cubs and Brewers add significantly more? I don't think Milwaukee gave up much for Heuer/Naylor from Cleveland. I don't know if teams are willing to add much depending on what happens with Skubal, and would be willing to stand pat, and keep their prospects heading into the offseason with the CBA expiring. The main issue is going to be the Ohtani rule. The Dodgers could very well have a 6 man rotation throughout the rest of the season, and Ohtani doesn't count as a pitcher, while he is going to pitch again at some point. I don't want to sound pessimistic, but I'm not expecting much activity, because I don't think buyers are willing to give up a lot of prospects because we all kind of know who is going to represent the NL in the World Series.

Asking price is a little too high. I'm hearing the Cubs weren't expecting the South Bend bullpen catcher to be on the trade proposal. Now, they're going to have to rethink some things.

We're probably going to use him as an example of the high velocity guys that enter the MLB can have sustain success in the MLB with velocity. Batters aren't scared of him anymore. He gave up 10 home runs in 2024, 11 in 2025, and 13 so far this season. So, I believe with the velocity dipping + more AB's against Skenes, batters are now used to him. I'm curious to see where Burns and Misioriski are going to be in 2-3 years from now, where their velocity might dip just a little bit, and hitters are going to hit them because they're no longer scared of them. The only pitcher that has consistent high velocity is Chapman, and that's because his workouts are outstanding in the offseason. But it shows that pitchers and their bodies aren't built to throw 102+ every 5th day for 6-7 months, it's just not. And I think you're seeing that now with Skenes.

Which is where I take a stand on the offensive side of things. If we can't win a 2-1/3-2 game, then it's probably best for the Cubs to acquire a little bit more offense, which Hunter Goodman (my opinion) comes into play. Unless the Cubs get Skubal, I don't think there's a pitcher they acquire by Monday that solidifies the pitching issues. We're still going to be a bad pitching team this time next week. Now, pitching hasn't been the problem the last two days, but still.

True, and I get that. But for the Cubs perspective, he hasn't been the healthiest pitcher, and the Cubs can use that in the negotiations with Cincinnati. Now, I will say, I do want Hunter Greene, but he's not a Skubal type guy that I'm willing to give up everything for. But Wiggins is starter and Mo will be an everyday player (whether if it's a C or DH is TBD). I don't know what the expectation is for Rojas, but I can see him being a consistent MLB player. I think those are 3 guys, with Horton being a one that draws the most interest. With Greene's injury issues, I think it's still a slight overpay (my opinion) on this scenario, but I'll still consider doing it.

And if you're a team like St. Louis, it's probably better off going through a rebuild because of two things: (1): the Cardinals probably aren't going to win the WS or make it to the NLDS (realistic goal) anytime soon. (2) Let the Dodgers win their 2-3 World Series, and then go compete when those players are on the back half of their contracts, and when they're up in age. So, I do believe it was a good idea for St. Louis to go through a rebuild. They already got a good player in Wetherholt, and a lefty pitcher in Liam Doyle who they drafted last year, that can get it to the upper-90's. But for a team like Colorado (probably the same guidelines as the Athletics), they can't. They don't have the light at the end of the tunnel. It's not just they have to rebuild, which is a hard thing to do in baseball. But they have to rebuild to their ballpark, which makes it a lot tougher. In addition to that, they have to deal with the Dodgers if/when they get back to playing competitive baseball and competing for a postseason spot. So I don't blame teams that are going through rebuilding phases right now because the chances of winning a World Series are slim due to how the Dodgers are operating their organization.

I don't think I'll say that. Warriors were fine because they drafted those players and developed them. I'm fine with the Patriots and Chiefs because of the salary cap, and it's tougher to win in the NFL (scheduling as an example). NFL does a good job with helping the teams that are bad with no lottery in the draft, and an easy schedule. The problem with the Dodgers is the deferred contracts. As I say that, the Cubs deferred money with Bregman, and most organizations do it, but not all. But I have a problem with Will Smith's contract being deferred + Yamamoto's contract being deferred = having enough money to sign Teoscar Hernandez (or another player) and that player gets a big hit in a playoff game. I mean Blake Snell is getting paid $5.5 Million from age 42-53. You got a relief pitcher in Tanner Scott having a deferred contract. Edwin Diaz has a deferred contact that lasts 11 years. I get it that's it is in the rules and all 30 organizations have the same chance, but they don't. No need to discuss that. I'm not saying I'm for a salary cap, but I'm heavily against deferred contracts.

I don't think anyone mentioned Castillo for Suzuki. It was Kirby for Suzuki.

I don't know if that proves anything. The team can't hit and has lost their power. Can't drive the baseball in the gaps either, and can't score runs. So, finding a way to trade a big league pitcher of theirs for a big league offensive bat in the outfield, does make sense to me.

Have you watched the Seattle Mariners? Or just looking at analytics/numbers to prove a point. The Mariners aren't good.

Didn't know the Cubs would do it due to the injuries with the pitching staff. I will say, kudos to the organization for letting him stay on with the team so Taillon can get 10 years of service time, he deserves that accomplishment with all that he has gone through early his career.

Liberatore is just giving up a lot of hits. His stuff has just been average.

If the Cubs can find a way to get Hunter Greene and a rental in Gausman, then Jed has won me over. Gausman won't cost much because he is a rental. Cincinnati is a tough spot. They fired David Bell for Terry Francona, so I assumed everyone thought they would be contending. However, the offense isn't productive outside of De La Cruz and Stewart. I know Ke'Bryan Hayes contract isn't much in terms of money, but they got 4+ more years on a contract that's worth $7-$12 Million dollars per season, which is a dark cloud for a batter hitting .143 and having 5 RBI's in 140+ AB's this season. They gifted Pittsburgh by trading for him. I'm not sure if Cincinnati wants to pay Greene $15 Million for the next two seasons knowing they could lose him in free agency. And if the Cubs that has a surplus of players that are stuck at certain positions in the minor leagues, I think you can capitalize on a organization that has a cheap owner and a mediocire/bad GM.

I'm going to say no for both of those prospects. Now, if you want to say Ayers for Detmers straight up, then I'll say yes to that. The team that should go to a full sell mode will be the Miami Marlins. They're currently on a 11 game losing streak. So, if we're giving away Rojas and Ayers (let's just say those players), then I'm asking Miami for Sandy Alcantara over Detmers. We've seen what Alcantara can do, and he has shown flashes that he can do it. He goes deep into ball games. The stuff, to me, is still there. For Detmers, it's a lot similar to trading Cease/Eloy for Quintana. We're hoping Quintana, an average pitcher at the time for the White Sox, can turn it around for the Cubs. He never did, and ended up having an average, yet long, career. I know Alcantara had a rough patch in June, but he has around a 3.4ish ERA in April, July, and August. The K's aren't as high as in CY dominating years 2-3 years ago, but it's still a good respectable rate.

I bet it's frustrating for KA to play well in Iowa, but not do well in Chicago (despite the lack of consistent opportunities). For Mo, he had some consistent opportunities and did well, but struggle to make adjustments and that's what you get as a result. A demotion, KA only has 41 career AB's, so we're only talking 10-11 full games. Not sure how many of those AB's were in garage type situation. Moises has over 200 PA's.

Thank you, it's something I've said in the past few days that the Cubs doesn't have the playmakers to match the postseason teams. But you better be careful because the analytic nerds will probably come after you.

I don't want rentals, I want players that are in control with the team for a good bit. This team isn't good enough for rentals to make a change. Yordan Alvarez Hunter Greene Hunter Goodman No explanation as to why. MVP caliber player with 2 All-Stars that I just mentioned. -
I just saw the Yankees and Dodgers probables for the next homestand. Cubs will be lucky if they win 2 games in both of those series.

Nice to see Rolison rebound lately. Had a 2-3 rough stretch of games before the break. Seems like he's one of those pitchers that needed the break.

I just feel like he tries too hard. I know it's his job, but it feels like calling a game with an agenda outside of his job duties.
