  1. The last couple days are what happens to game threads when Fred doesn't show up.
  2. I doubt it considering they'll be playing the Yankees in the first round who will trot out Sabathia, Hughes, Pettitte to counter those three. Dontforget that Colby Lewis is a legit #2.
  3. Lee traded to the Rangers for Justin Smoak, Mark Lowe and 3 other players. So... anyone think we can steal Jesus Montero from the Yankees for Lilly, straight up?
  4. He's 21 with a strong pedigree. Here are his prospect rankings. I will admit they are trending in the wrong direction. He is also injury prone: Prospect Ratings by Baseball America: Pre-2007: Rated #22 Prospect Pre-2008: Rated #20 Prospect Pre-2009: Rated #30 Prospect Pre-2010: Rated #77 Prospect He had a stronger campaign last year and his doubles may turn into homers later. The question is whether he (and another Met prospect) are better than two 2011 sandwich picks. At the risk of being hounded for talking about Vitters again, it seems similar to Vitters. Lots of early promotions without much performance to match. Although he also spent time in lower levels each year, were those rehab assignments, demotions or what? Not an interesting player to me, but Lilly isn't going to net you a stud. http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/01/12/what-are-the-mets-plans-for-fernando-martinez/

  6. So you want to get Fukudome back in the offseason. Oops! I meant have Martinez and Colvin battle next spring.
  7. Is there any hope to get a decent player back or do you think the Cubs are just looking to dump the salary. What is his value? The more and more I look at the rumors, I am starting to get very worried the Cubs are simply looking to dump salary. I have been waiting for this deadline since the middle of last season. If we don't get any good young talent back for our talent, I am going to be pissed. The problem though is that a lot of our guys are overpaid and not performing up to their contracts, making it very difficult to get any sort of return back for them. I, for one, am totally ok with the salary dumps as it gives a new GM room to bring in new FA's. ...Or make beneficial salary relief trades too.
  8. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=monter001jes Yeah, Montero is a top 5 overall prospect. What haul should Hendry try to get from the Mets? Here is a list of their top 10 prospects: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/organization-top-10-prospects/2010/269121.html I don't think the Mets would give up Fernando Martinez but that's who I would chase. Trade Fukudome for salary relief and have Fukudome & Colvin fight for the RF spot next year.
  9. There will be more competition for Lilly after Cliff Lee gets traded.
  10. Almost as nice as the view from Iowa City. Hawkeye football might get more wins than the Cubs in September.
  11. The only rational responses are apathy or seppaku.
  12. At this rate, Lilly will be traded by the end of the game.
  13. At least today's game thread should reach three pages. Coldest comfort ever.
  14. Today was the opening of the international signing period. The Cubs already signed 16 year old Daniel Sanchez from the Dominican Republic. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=9297
  15. To get this thread back on track, here's an excerpt from Kevin Goldstein's chat yesterday:
  16. We simply disagree that a 20 year old seeing his first AA action with a .750 OPS "sucks". That's the hardest jump in the minors and his skills are improving by the week.
  17. Yeah, let's trade Vitters for a proven veteran like Yuniesky Betancourt. Jersey Cubs Fan is right. Let's move Vitters now before he loses his prospect tag in 2016.
  18. different races... invalid comparison That's funny. I just assumed Jackson was black. I've seen his picture and i still forget he's white.
  19. http://www.sportingnews.com/mlb/article/2010-06-30/rangers-acquire-bengie-molina-from-giants Be happy it wasn't Soto traded for Chris Ray.
  20. Maybe Toronto doesn't believe in the resurgence of Vernon Wells. We could trade Zambrano for Wells and trade Byrd for a minor league pitcher. Those outfield contracts would be gruesome though. We'll probably end up with a straight-up trade for Carlos "Bone on Bone" Beltran.
  21. The Diamondbacks literally threw away a victory against the Cardinals. They gave up three runs on errors in the 9th. The Cardinals winning is no longer relevant to the Cubs 2010 season but it is still frustrating to see them win like that.
  22. This victory ends the Pittsburgh's 17 road game losing streak.
  23. St. Louis interest verified: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=MLB&hl=295102&id=3565
  24. Their trade chip would have to be Shelby Miller. He's the only minor leaguer that they have. They better win it all because Cliff Lee will walk and the Cardinals will be left with a worse minor league system than the Astros.
  25. My expectations were low when the season started but I didn't expect the minor league threads to be longer than the game threads. Not by the All-Star break, anyway.
