  1. Yeah, I was someone who thought there was a (small) chance they would re-sign him in free agency, but I have a hard time seeing that now with everything that has gone on the second half. I too have been thinking of the Bryant parallels. At this point, I also suspect he won't be ready for round 1 which will make the vibes around him even more off. In 2026, I'm expecting something like a Cassie/Grichuk platoon in RF. Money will be spent but spread around. Maybe they get Imai or something.
  2. Depends on record vs own division, so still to be decided. They've gotten a lot of Colorado recently which has helped them.
  3. Also Ballesteros off to a fun little start. I didn't realize how stark his splits were in AAA. A guy with that approach I figured would be a little more even. I don't even hate that though, just don't let him face any lefties in meaningful situations. But he's certainly ready to face RHP.
  4. Of all the game thread takes this season, the one awhile ago about wanting the Cubs to act more like the Bears might be my favorite
  5. (They've also played at a 92 win pace going back to opening day) Also saying it's going to be OK for a team with basically a 100% of making the playoffs is not on the same scale as saying this team is garbage or whatever with the 3rd best RD in baseball. That's my opinion though.
  6. I'd also argue heading home 21 games over .500 with a good shot of hosting a 1st round series is worth being at least kinda excited over
  7. Nice job, way to clinch a winning west coast trip. I'll be ready to fire Hoyer and Counsell if they lose tomorrow
  8. the offense better score a lot of runs again but also if they do, it doesn't count or something like that
  9. This is a game thread. We expect aggressive baserunning but will not accept any outs. This goes for both the runners and 3rd base coach.
  10. Kelly hit that hard enough where I thought it'd be close lol
  11. Nice of Kipnis to wear his best hoodie for the pre and post tonight
  12. I do take Nico for granted sometimes. Guy just puts up 4 win seasons consistently
  13. I mean if the medical staff caught it in June, I don't know that they're to blame. I know it can be frustrating to watch, but I will say that in terms building player relationships and having a good reputation around the league for stuff like that, when contemplating putting an everyday player on the IL (to say nothing of a player of Tucker's caliber), clearly there's more to it than a team just saying "You're going on the IL. The end."
  14. Suarez has a .454 *OPS* with the Mariners. Not trading for him saved the season
  15. I know it's become common to sarcastically reference only after losses, but the playoff odds are still quite good!
  16. Good game. Wrigley made that closer than it deserved to be.
  17. Statcast also wasn't prepared for that one. Didn't even register.
  18. That Happ double was pulled at 105 mph, 23 degrees. Kind of ridiculous that it stayed in to begin with
  19. The aggressive sends that work tend to go unnoticed
  20. I do feel like it's worth mentioning that since opening day, the Cubs have the second best record in baseball.
