  1. Donovan is just a solid, consistent player. He's nothing to be scared about. And the Cardinals have traded everything around him besides Masyn Winn. I would rather they waste the last 2 years of Donovan rather than get something for him when they are tanking.
  2. I dont think Bryce Eldridge overwhelms a team that just traded Owen Caissie.
  3. If you are "overwhelmed," yes. I dont see how the Giants overwhelm you, but there are other teams out there that could. Something tells me Logan Webb is not on the table in these discussions.
  4. Someone really needs 3 quarters because the vending machine isn't taking bills and they offer you a dollar for your 3 quarters. Are you going to sit there and contemplate the value of 75 cents for 1 dollar?
  5. If you are overwhelmed you do it, you dont consider.
  6. There were reports maybe a week ago suggesting the Yankees have given their final and best offer to Bellinger and they believe he will sign with another team. Not sure they care about him any more.
  7. Really wish if they were willing to do this deal today, that they just did this horsefeathers last year and pushed a little harder to actually compete with Kyle Tucker.
  8. Yes, However, he said there was another offer higher on the table and then and only then did the Red Sox go to 5/165. The 5/165 number has been rumored for at least a week. I don't know if that higher offer was from the Cubs though. There were a few teams that seemed to gain a little more interest in Bregman after the Japanese market dried up.
  9. I was excited to get Tucker because the package they gave up to get him felt like there was no way you make that move without a massive contract ready to offer. But then you found out shortly after there was no intention to keep him beyond 1 year. And then they limped through the remainder of the off season. So the excitement was short lived. At least with Bregman you know for a fact he's here for 5 years.
  10. Astros might have been better off keeping a guy with 2 years of college and only 5 games at AA in the minors. Maybe.
  11. Nothing. From a fan perspective, a teams spending has no effect. From a team perspective, the difference in the contracts will still be spent on other players. The only thing that should matter is the AAV that goes to the teams annual budget. We don't know yet what Tuckers AAV will be but if it's within a few million of the 31 handed to Bregman, I will be a little disappointed.
  12. I think we are at the point of what you see is what you get. Without some kind of trade, I think we are pretty much done besides maybe some minor league depth signings.
  13. During "parts" of 2018. The investigation concluded there was no sign stealing taking place during the 2018 playoffs, so at some point during the season they stopped doing it. Tucker played in 28 games in 2018 for the Astros starting in July. He had a .141/.236/.203 batting line for his time on the team that year. If they were still stealing signs by the time he came up, he didn't do a very good job of reading them. If you look at their hitters monthly numbers, June kind of stands out for 2018. They all went on a heater that month.
  14. Tucker was in the minors when the cheating scandal happened. He didn't join the team until the following year.
  15. I prefer better baseball players and someone who's wRC+ dropped 60 points outside of Yankee Stadium doesn't top my list of wants and wishes.
  16. I mean... I dont want Bellinger on the team.... So, YAY!
  17. I don't believe for one second that the Cubs staff would be willing to sabotage their #1 prospect and rookie of the year candidate. His stance completely changed from some scrunched up twisted ball to something more reminiscent of Javier Baez and he blew up at the plate in the 2nd half.
  18. What would be the purpose of doing that? He's already been paid. It's not like he's Machado going into FA and going back to SS for 1 year to get SS money for his next contract. Besides, Shaw, unless he is traded, will be the starting 2B after this season.
  19. I'm really mostly curious in what changed from last year to this year. Trade for 1 year of Tucker and max out on Bregman at 4/115. Now Tucker is gone and Bregman is a year older but worth 5/175. Was the QO loss really valued at that much of a difference?
  20. Shouldn't be hard to cite a study showing the price per WAR being a tick over $10M then.
  21. Perhaps TT should grace us with his own study on the subject, then. Because there isn't a single thing besides chatGPT showing anything close to a $10M price tag per WAR outside of a select number of dominant relievers. Even a unicorn like Ohtani came in at $9.5M.
  22. You seem to make up your own rules for how it works. Meanwhile the studies on it don't agree with you.
  23. Use projected WAR then. Cease is projected at 3.8. Guess what? That's 7.1. Fangraphs latest article on the study ended in 2022 and was trending down with $8.5M being the number for '22. So to sit here and say the market rate is a little over 10 is delusional. Here is a recent article using Fangraphs numbers. https://www.paraballnotes.com/blog/dollar-per-war-2025-2026 Last year it was 7.8. No where near a tick over 10.
  24. Get back to me when you actually look at his contract.
