Michael Busch - 2.5 WAR Zips Projection Seiya Suzuki - 2.4 WAR Zips Projection Put me on the skeptical side that Busch will be more valuable than Suzuki year 1.

I also dislike the idea of waiting around for the deadline for immediate needs. However, I don't consider a TORP to pair with Steele an immediate need. They need to add bats and BP help now. The rotation is good enough to give you competitive outings 1-5 and get you to the deadline in contention. But like I said in my original post, I'm fully on board with making a trade now to satisfy a TORP, but I can buy into the idea of not doing that until the trade deadline where players (Cease, etc) will be somewhat cheaper and new names might become available.

This is the direction I wish they would go. I could also buy into the plan of this rotation getting us to the trade deadline and then going out and swinging a large trade for a controlled arm.

I just don’t think it’s as black and white as “oh horsefeathers, we paid Bellinger CF money and now we’re stuck with him at 1b because PCA proved that he’s ready to take over in 2025”. You’re paying for a damn good, versatile player who is going into his age 28 season. If the Cubs believe in his bat and believe they unlocked something with the way he hit last year, I’m on board if they sign him. He won a gold glove in right field in 2019 - maybe the future move is to move him to RF and Suzuki to DH? Regardless, this day and age versatility is highly valued and Bellinger is on the high end of that scale with his overall defense, age, speed, LH bat, etc.

Agreed. With the DH and Bellinger’s flexibility, PCA alone should not be a reason against signing Bellinger.

People are bitching because Jed is what he is at this point. He’s yet to make a non trade deadline savvy trade to help this ball club. Having a reserved nature is fine, but at some point he has to take a leap and make a move that hurts. He’s yet to do that. Imagine if he would have been proactive and landed a Olson/Murphy/etc level trade and already had a nice middle of the order bat to build around. It’s not just this off-season, we now have multiple years of evidence of his reversed “sit back and wait” style. My patience has already been thin with Jed, but I’ll once again wait for the unexpected off season move that probably won’t happen.

Ugh. I didn't want Chapman and Bieber was pretty far down my list of SP that I was hoping they would add, but I'm at the point of I would rather them do that then miss on everyone I guess. I have been in the corner of adding two SP all along, so Bieber plus a Monty/Imanaga would be nice.

Agree with this completely. Jed's "smart" spending is fine most of the time. But at some point, you have to cross that line to get a true superstar. Almost all deals regarding a superstar will feel like an overpay at the time. Cubs fans have been begging for that cornerstone player for some time now. -
